TOWSON, Md. – The University of Delaware softball team used a season-high 17-hit attack, breaking the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to earn a CAA series victory with a 15-4 run-rule win over Towson on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 26-12 on the season and 9-3 in the CAA.
The Blue Hens received hits from 10 different batters, including seven extra-base hits, and seven players had multi-hit performances. Hanna Garber led the way with two hits and was on base four times while scoring two runs. Brittney Mendoza had a double and a home run while driving in four runs and scoring three times. Kailey Christian also had two hits and four RBI and Morgan Olynyk had two hits, two RBI and both her and Christian scored twice. Bailey White came off the bench and had two hits and three RBI. Brooke Glanden and Julz Garber rounded out those who had multiple hits

For the third-straight game, the Blue Hens jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Hanna Garber led off with a walk and moved up on a single by Brooke Glanden. Mendoza cleared the bases with her fifth home run of the season to give UD a 3-0 lead just three batters into the game.
Christian extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning as she beat a drawn-in infield for a single to score Mendoza. Olynyk followed with her third home run of the season over the fence in right-center field to make it a 6-0 game.
The Blue Hens broke the game open in the fourth as the first eight batters all reached base. With runners on the corners, Mendoza lined an RBI double into the gap in right-center field to score Hanna Garber. Halle Kisamore followed with an RBI single of her own before Christian drove one off the fence deep in center field. She pulled into third with a two-run triple and then scampered home when the ball got away from the infield. Two more singles put runners on the corners before White pinch hit and drove in a run with a single. Hanna Garber capped the inning with a run-scoring double to make it 13-0.
Towson got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as three extra-base hits led to a pair of runs, but UD immediately had an answer. Pinch-hit singles by Zoey Valentino and Emily Blum put two runners on before White came up again lined a two-run triple past the centerfielder for her first career extra base hit.
The Tigers put across a couple more runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Shank shut the door as the Blue Hens came away with their third-straight series victory in conference play.
Delaware will remain on the road for a midweek nonconference matchup at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday. First pitch in Philadelphia is scheduled for 3 p.m.
