Track & Field Shines At Virginia Challenge and Hopkins/Loyola Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. | BALITMORE, Md. – The University of Delaware track and field team had an eventful weekend competing at the Virginia Challenge, hosted by UVA (Apr. 21-23) and the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational, hosted by Johns Hopkins (Apr. 22-23). The Blue Hens set two new school records and 16 personal best times/marks.
Virginia Challenge
Chioma Njoku and Bethany Clement opened the weekend on Thursday competing in the hammer throw. Njoku launched a new program and personal record of 57.28m to finish eighth overall, eclipsing her previous mark of 55.17m, one that she set almost a month ago at Raleigh Relays. Clement followed with a mark of 50.80, which was good enough for 19th place.
Susanna Weir headlined the Blue Hens in the 5000m event to close out Friday's competition slate. Weir dominated by setting a new school and personal record with a time of 16:27.68 (ninth place overall). She dethroned the 2014 time of 16:48.18, which was set by former Blue Hen Lindsay Prettyman.
Megan Albamonti finished in third place in the javelin throw with a mark of 49.86m. In the 100m preliminaries, Aja Davis took second place in her heat, 15th overall with a time of 12.01 while Trinity Tapper finished in 12th place overall with a time of 11.93. Halima Scott led the way for the Blue Hens in the 400m with a season-best time of 54.75. Tina Capparell used a time of 10:33.02 to place 14th overall in the 3000m Steeplechase. Scott, Davis and Tapper competed in the 200m for the Blue & Gold. Scott (24.23, 10th place) and Davis (24.55, 17th place) both set season-best times while Tapper ran a 25.31 to place 41st. Jessica Harding ran a 2:11.61 in the 800m to round out the weekend for the Blue Hens at the Virginia Challenge.
Hopkins/Loyola Invitational
Kamylin Padgham (12.11) and Shylehn Ebuenga-Smith (12.26) earned third and fifth place, respectively in the 100m. Padgham and Ebuenga-Smith also shined in the 200m by setting personal-best times of 25.06 and 25.27 to place third and seventh, respectively.
Melady Brown set a PR time of 59.73 in the 400m to finish in seventh place and Alyssa Armor followed in eighth place with a time of 59.73.
Carolyn Coletti ran a 2:18.40 in the 800m, which was good enough for third place. Julien Webster and Marissa Dailey shined in the 1500m, where they both set personal best times of 4:48.39 and 4:49.39 to capture 10th and 11th place, respectively.
Anna Cleary placed eighth in the 5000m with a personal best time of 18:22.07. Makiyah Cannon-Price set a personal-best time of 16.91 in the 100m hurdles to cross the finish line first in her heat (19th overall).
Sarah Daniels won the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:46.98 to rank as the No.3 performer in school history. Katie Hally (11:30.15, fourth place), Samantha Side (11:32.51, fifth place) and Alicia Lenoir, who set a personal best time of 11:55.73 (ninth place) all competed in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Destiny DeBlock leaped at a personal-best height of 5.46m to place eighth overall in the long jump. Biola Adeleye competed in the triple jump and also leaped a personal-best mark of 11.23m to finish in seventh place. Koise Nkwonta threw the hammer for a personal-best mark of 48.69m, which was good enough for second place, while Gabrielle Holliday placed eighth with a personal-best throw of 43.50m. Clement made an appearance in the discus throw, where she launched one for a personal-best mark of 43.13m to finish in second place. Emily Eckard set a PR in the discus throw as well with a 40.56m mark to finish in fourth place.

The Blue Hens return to action to compete at Penn Relays hosted by Penn University starting Thursday, Apr. 28 through Saturday, Apr. 30.
