Track and Field Meet Preview: Penn Relays

» Delaware will close out the outdoor regular-season slate at the 126th Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania starting Thursday, Apr. 28 running through Saturday, Apr. 30 from Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The historic event is back after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Blue Hens are excited to compete.

» The last time the Blue Hens hit the track was last weekend at the Virginia Challenge (Apr. 21-23) and Hopkins/Loyola Invitational (Apr. 22-23). UD set two new school records and 16 personal best times/marks.

» At the Virginia Challenge, Chioma Njoku launched a new program and personal record of 57.28m in the hammer throw to finish eighth overall. She eclipsed her previous mark of 55.17m, one that she set a month ago at Raleigh Relays. Njoku's mark ranks second in the conference and 52nd in the NCAA East Region.

» Also at the Virginia Challenge, Susanna Weir headlined the Blue Hens in the 5000m event, where dominated by setting a new school and personal record with a time of 16:27.68 (ninth place overall). She dethroned the 2014 time of 16:48.18, which was set by former Blue Hen Lindsay Prettyman. Weir's time ranks first in the conference and 72nd in the NCAA East Region.

» At the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational, Sarah Daniels won the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:46.98 to rank as the No.3 performer in school history.

» Head coach Ryan Waite will take nine Blue Hen athletes to Philadelphia slated to compete in three events, starting with Tina Capparell in the 3000m Steeplechase on Thursday. The Blue & Gold will also make an appearance in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays on Friday.
