Albamonti Sets Javelin Program Record at Mason Spring Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Delaware track and field team competed at the Mason Spring Invite, hosted by George Mason Saturday (Apr. 9) from George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va. A trio of Blue Hens shined at the meet by rewriting the program's history books.
It has only been two weeks since Megan Albamonti competed in the javelin toss and she immediately reigned dominance. In her final attempt, Albamonti launched one for personal best and a new school record mark of 50.64m to win the event. She surpassed her 16-day old throw of 50.62m, a mark she achieve at the Raleigh Relays on Mar. 24.
Winning the 5000m was Susanna Weir with a time of 16:57.03 that now sits third in program history. Following behind Weir was Sarah Daniels, as she placed third with a time of 17:04.73, a time that is sixth in school history.
In the long jump, Alicia Lehman captured second place after leaping 5.68m (+1.3). Chioma Njoku launched a mark of 54.92m in the hammer throw for second place while Bethany Clement followed by throwing a mark of 48.19m that good enough for sixth place.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Katie Hally led the way with a third-place finish (11:14.17) while Samantha Side earned sixth place (11:48.90) and Alicia Lenoir took ninth place with a time of 11:57.97.
