Delaware Men’s Basketball Adds Transfers Christian Ray, L.J. Owens

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's basketball head coach Martin Ingelsby has announced that transfers Christian Ray and L.J. Owens have joined the Blue Hens program.
Ray, a 6-6 guard from Gap, Pa., recently finished his third season at La Salle and has two years of eligibility with Delaware. He appeared in all but one game for the Explorers this year, leading the team with 6.9 rebounds while adding 5.0 points per outing. Ray scored a season-high 14 points and grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds in the Blue Hens' 85-82 overtime win over La Salle on Nov. 17.
Ray recorded four double-doubles during his La Salle career, playing 84 games while making 52 starts. The 2020-21 Philadelphia Big 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Ray was high school teammates with Jameer Nelson, Jr. at The Haverford School.
"We are thrilled to welcome Christian to our Blue Hen basketball family," Ingelsby said. "Christian is a tough, hard-nosed wing with a high basketball IQ and an elite ability to rebound the basketball. His versatility on both ends of the floor will mesh well with our returning players and I am excited to see his game flourish in our system. Christian is the ultimate team guy and he will bring strong leadership to our team in the locker room and on the basketball court."
Owens, a 6-3 guard from Annapolis, Md., spent the last three years at UMBC after playing one season at William & Mary. He has one year of eligibility with the Blue Hens.
Owens started every game for the Retrievers last season, averaging 11.3 points while leading the team with 67 three-pointers made. A third team All-America East and conference All-Academic Team selection, Owens tied his career-high with 20 points against Maine and reached double figures in 13 of the last 15 contests.
"The Blue Hen basketball family is excited to welcome L.J. to Newark," Ingelsby said. "L.J. is a shot-making guard who can stretch the floor from deep and also play on or off the basketball. He brings strong ball handling abilities and I am excited to see him grow as a facilitator in our offense. L.J. is a lockdown defender who can disrupt the game on the defensive side of the ball, and he is able to rebound well for his size. His veteran presence will be a strong addition to our locker room."
