Bethlehem, Pa. – Cross country traveled to the campus of Lehigh University to take part in the 48th Annual Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon, competing in the Women's 6K Brown race.
In a field of 383 runners featuring almost 50 different schools, freshman Tiffany Herrera placed first among the Blue Hens in Bethlehem, finishing the 6K course in 53rd place with a time of 22:12.0.
"This course felt super strange compared to our home course," Tiffany Herrera said. "This course was super flat, and we're so used to hills at White Clay, so it's easier to compete at courses like this."
Three freshmen marked the top three finishers for the Blue Hens, with Grace Chesley earning 144th place with a time of 23:05.9 and Stephanie Herrera placing 146th with a time of 23:06.7.
"It was nice to have a break from hills and the elevation at White Clay today," head coach Kenyetta Iyevbele said. "We were able to test a bit more of our speed here on a flat course, today, our biggest thing was trying to be more conservative on the front side. That's something we've been trying to practice at all courses."
Among 46 competitive institutions including CAA schools Hofstra and Towson, Delaware finished 26th in scoring with a mark of 724, finishing ahead of Elizabethtown, Towson and Loyola. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Cal.) earned the team title with 82 points, while George Washington placed second with 214. Lynchburg rounded out the scoring three with 251 points. Emory junior Annika Urban earned the individual title with a time of 20:22.9.
The Blue Hens will split up their squad next weekend, with some heading to Penn State on Oct. 14 and some staying home for the Delaware Invitational on Oct. 15.
