NEWARK, Del. – Three-pointers rained down for Delaware men's basketball (13-14, 5-9 CAA) as it hit a season-high 11 and won 71-60 over CAA newcomer Stony Brook (9-18, 5-9) on Monday evening.
After Stony Brook scored the first five points of the game, Delaware ripped off an 8-0 run over 2:04 to pull ahead 8-5 with 17 minutes left in the inaugural frame. The Hens then went 15-2 over a 7:24 span, including 13-0 over 5:55 to pull ahead 23-8 with nine minutes on the clock. UD would finish the half with a 37-23 lead.
Jameer Nelson Jr. led all scorers with 14 first-half points. As a team the Blue Hens shot 44-percent, including an impressive 8-for-16 from three. The Blue & Gold also capitalized with 12 points off of six turnovers by the visitors.
Stony Brook pulled within 10 points in the opening minutes of the second half, however Delaware found its rhythm again and used seven unanswered points to pull back ahead by 20. The visitors would pull it back to a five-point deficit, but wouldn't be able to overcome that threshold.

Nelson Jr. and Asamoah connected on four triples apiece, the first time a pair of Blue Hens have accomplished that since December 5, 2020 when Asamoah and Kevin Anderson did against Salem.
The Blue Hens held Frankie Policelli, the league's leading rebounder, to just three during Monday's contest.
The Blue Hens have played four-straight home games with at least 2,400 fans and fifth straight above 2,000 after Monday's crowd of 2,449.
