Track & Field Have Strong Showing At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Delaware track & field team headed down south to North Carolina to compete at the three-day Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State Mar. 23-25. The flock of 16 Blue Hens put together a solid outing headlined by four personal-best times/marks and five season-best times/marks.
Megan Albamonti opened day one showing why she is a force to be reckoned with. The Westerly, R.I. native threw the javelin 52.84m in her first attempt, which was good enough to advance to the finals. Albamonti's sixth and final throw flew through the air for a new season-best mark of 55.33m, earning her a second-place finish in the event.
Myrissa McFolling-Young was on deck for two events this weekend and made her outdoor debut on Thursday in the shot put. McFolling-Young threw for a mark of 14.26m which placed her in 12th overall. The Smyrna, Del. native took Thursday's momentum into Friday's discus throw and found herself setting new personal-best marks on three separate occasions. McFolling-Young's third attempt of 51.61m granted her access to the finals and then threw a PR mark of 53.74m in her final attempt to capture a third place finish.
Chioma Njoku shined in her second outdoor meet of the season competing in the hammer throw. In her first attempt, the Newark, Del. native saw her hammer fly through the air for a new personal- and school-best record of 58.38m. Njoku's mark placed seventh overall.
Marie-Frederique Poulin led the way for the Blue Hens in the 400m hurdles as the Trois-Rivières, QC Canada native updated her school-record mark by setting a personal-best time of 59.08 (fourth place).
The Blue Hen sprinters saw action on Friday headlined by a season-best time of 12.56 in the 100m ran by Kamylin Padgham. On Saturday, the rookie Taylor Johnson ran a personal-best time of 25.40 in the 200m (63rd place), where she finished second overall in her heat. The veterans in Padgham and Shylehn Ebuenga-Smith followed behind Johnson with season-best times of (25.65, 70th place) and 25.78 (75th place), respectively.
The 4x100 relay team consisting of Padgham, Johnson, Ebuenga-Smith and Halima Scott ran a time of 47.82, which was good enough for 15th place. The 4x400 relay squad of Poulin, Carly Schmidt, Johnson and Scott ran a season-best time of 3:53.84 (21st place).
