Track & Field Competes At Historic Texas Relays

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The University of Delaware track & field team headed down South to Austin, Texas for the first time in recent history to compete at the historic and prestigious 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, hosted by University of Texas at Austin running from Mar. 29-Apr. 1 from Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium. The Blue Hens opened the slate of competition on day two, Mar. 30, and did not disappoint throughout the weekend finishing posting six season-best times.
Kicking things off for the Blue & Gold was 400m hurdles led by Marie-Frederique Poulin and Carly Schmidt. Poulin finished in fourth place in her heat with a time of 59.19 (18th place) and then 15 minutes later Schmidt crossed her heat's finish line in third place with a time of 1:03.55 (40th place).
Sarah Daniels capped the Blue Hens evening racing in the 3000m Steeplechase. Running the steeple for the first time this season, Daniels ran a season-best time of 10:59.01, which was good enough for an 11th-place finish.
The 4x100 relay team consisting of Kamylin Padgham, Taylor Johnson, Shylehn Ebuenga-Smith and Halima Scott kicked off day two on Friday for the Blue Hens running a time of 47.99 (20th place). The sprints group continued their day as Ebuenga-Smith and Padgham headlined the 100m by crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 12.44 (fifth in her heat) and 12.45 (sixth in her heat), respectively.
Serving as the lone field athlete was Megan Albamonti in the javelin. The back-to-back CAA Field Athlete of the Week threw 51.78m in her second attempt to help her advance to the finals. Albamonti then followed with a mark of 53.06m in her fifth attempt to finish in sixth place.
The 4x400 relay squad of Scott, Poulin, Johnson and Schmidt ran a season-best time of 3:50.55 placing them in 10th before the distance event group got ready to conclude day two.
The relays continued as the sprint medley team of Johnson, Ebuenga-Smith, Scott and Tiffany Herrera finished with a season-best time of 4:10.44 to place third in their heat and 11th overall. The SMR team's time now sits 10th in program history. The DMR four, Nina Sgambelluri, Hannah Smalley, Lindsey Volkman and Marissa Dailey posted a season-best time of 12:25.88 to finish in eighth place to close out day two for the Blue & Gold.
Competing on the last day of the prestigious meet was the 4x800 relay group of Smalley, Dailey, Volkman and Sgambelluri, which served as the lone event of the day for the Blue & Gold. The squad ran a season-best time of 9:31.45 to finish in eighth place, concluding the Blue Hens' outing at Texas Relays.
