Kurtz Ties Program Record for Career Points in Win Against Hampton

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's lacrosse senior attackman Tye Kurtz tied the record for most points in a career as the Blue Hens defeated Hampton 19-1 on Saturday, April 1 at Delaware Stadium.
With eight points off four goals, and four assists, Kurtz tied Anthony DiMarzio's record of 251 career points on Saturday. He needs just three goals to pass Curtis Dickson's program record of 162 career goals.
In addition, head coach Ben DeLuca picked up his 50th career win at Delaware. He boasts a record of 50-27 at UD and 87-38 all time.
UD got off to a hot start, scoring the games first seven goals. The run was started by Nick Jessen, who scored less than two minutes into the first quarter, and finished with a Jason Kolar goal scored in the first minute of the second quarter. Mike Robinson, JP Ward, Clay Miller, Brendan Powers, and Tye Kurtz each added goals during the run. By the end of the first half, the Blue Hens scored 11 goals from six different athletes.
Following a Kurtz goal with under nine minutes to play in the third quarter, Miller scored three straight goals at the 37th, 40th, and 41st minutes, two of which were man-up goals.
Offensively, the Blue Hens were led by Ward, who set a new career high with eight assists, and added two goals. Kurtz and Miller each scored four goals, and Mike Robinson had seven points off three goals and four assists.
Defensively, Owen Grant had three caused turnovers, and added a goal. He's scored five goals over the last four straight games. Aidan Fritz set a new career high for caused turnovers with two.
As a team, the Blue Hens out-shot Hampton 44-28, including an 31-11 shots-on-goal advantage. Delaware caused nine turnovers defensively, while committing just 13.
The last time the Blue Hens allowed just one goal was back on Feb. 15, 2020 when Delaware defeated NJIT 13-1.
Delaware will be back in action on Saturday, April 8 against Fairfield at Delaware Stadium. Delaware men's lacrosse celebrates senior day and will honor 10 student athletes. In addition, Saturday is Delaware's 75th anniversary game.
