Kurtz Breaks Multiple Program Records in Victory over Fairfield

NEWARK, Del. – No. 20/20/20 Delaware men's lacrosse redshirt senior attackman Tye Kurtz broke multiple program records en route to a 17-7 victory over Fairfield on Saturday, April 8 at Delaware Stadium.
In the first half, Kurtz broke the record for most points scored in a career, which was previously held by Anthony DiMarzo at 251 points. He also broke the record for most goals scored in a career, which was previously held by Curtis Dickson at 162.
In addition, Kurtz broke the record for most points scored in a career for a Colonial Athletic Association athlete, which was also at 251, and tied the conference record for most goals in a career with 164.
On top of the two program records he broke in today's game, Kurtz also tied the program record for consecutive games with a point at 57 straight games, which was held by Dickson. Kurtz is also tied for the most man-up goals scored in a career with 18.
With the win, the Blue Hens improve their record to 8-3 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Fairfield drops to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
After Fairfield tied the game at 1-1 in the first quarter, the Blue Hens finished off on a 3-0 run over the last three minutes of the quarter. The run was started by Riar Schell, and was finished by Mike Robinson, who scored back-to-back goals.
Kurtz's program record breaking 252nd point came off a goal with less than two minutes to go in the first half. It was assisted by Nick Jessen.
The Stags wouldn't go down without a fight. They cut the Blue Hen lead to 11-7 with more than 10 minutes to go in the third quarter. However, the Blue Hens finished off the game scoring six unanswered goals. The run was started by Kurtz with 7 and a half minutes to remaining in the third quarter. This goal tied Dickson's record at 162.
It wouldn't take long into the fourth quarter for Kurtz to also break the goals record. With his third goal less than two minutes into the fourth, he would surpass Dickson as the program's all-time leading goal scorer.
In addition, he tied the conference record for most goals scored in a career, which happened on his fourth goal of the game scored with five minutes remaining in the game.
Offensively, the Blue Hens out-shot the Stags 46-39, including a 31-20 shots-on-goal advantage. Defensively, the Blue Hens caused six turnovers.
Leading the way on offense was Kurtz and Robinson. Both scored four goals. Robinson added two assist, while Kurtz had one. JP Ward also recorded a hat trick, and added two assists. He's scored 15 points over the last two games. Defensively, Tate Wasson had two of the Blue Hens six caused turnovers.
The Blue Hens also celebrated senior day on Saturday: Josh Bayer, Jake DeMare, Rich Dion, Harrison Ewing, Roland Hockenbery, Nick Jessen, Reed Kurtz, Drew Lenkaitis, Mike Robinson, and Tate Wasson.
