Delaware Completes Series Sweep with Third-Straight Shutout

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. –The University of Delaware softball team completed a three-game sweep on Sunday, defeating Monmouth 1-0 in a CAA game for its third-consecutive shutout over the Hawks. With the win, The Blue Hens move to .500 overall on the season at 15-15 and 7-2 in conference play.

Emily Winburn started in the circle and was fantastic to pick up her league-leading 10th win of the season. She went 5.0 shutout innings scattering six hits and striking out three. Taylor Wroten picked up her second save of the season with 2.0 one-hit innings with one strikeout.

Hanna Garber had three hits on the day, her third multi-hit performance of the weekend. Julz Garber also had two hits.

Delaware had its chances early, putting at least one runner on base in each of the first five innings, but could not push a run across.

Winburn was on top of her game again. She retired the side in order in the first and third innings. She stranded two runners in the second and got out of a bases loaded, nobody out jam in the fourth.

The Blue Hens finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning. Katie Scheivert reached on an error and made her way to third base with two outs. Grace Hrustich delivered a two-out RBI single for the game's lone run.

Wroten shut the door in the final two innings, ending the game with a strikeout.

The Blue Hens will return home for a five-game homestand at Delaware Softball Stadium. Delaware will play a midweek home game against Saint Joseph's on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
