Another Shutout Propels Delaware to Series Victory over Towson

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware softball team recorded its ninth shutout in the last 20 games as the Blue Hens defeated Towson 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to clinch a crucial CAA series victory at Delaware Softball Stadium. With the win, UD improves to 25-17 overall and 14-4 in conference play.

Taylor Wroten started in the circle and fired 3.0 shutout innings. She struck out three while allowing just two hits. Emily Winburn came on in relief and picked up her CAA-leading 16th win of the season with 4.0 one-hit innings while picking up two strikeouts.

Katie Scheivert had two hits and two RBI while Hanna Garber hit her second home run of the season.

Garber got things going quickly for the Blue Hens as she led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to dead center field on the seventh pitch of the at-bat.

Wroten worked around four base runners in her three innings before giving way to Winburn.

Delaware picked up some insurance in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brittney Mendoza led off with a walk and moved up to second with two outs. Scheivert lined a two-out RBI single into left field to extend UD's lead to 2-0.

Scheivert did the same thing in the sixth inning as she lined another two-out RBI single to left that allowed Erica Paisley to race home and make it a 3-0 game.

Winburn slammed the door with a strikeout and two ground outs in the seventh to seal the series win.

The Blue Hens will head out on the road next weekend for a three-game CAA series at Hofstra. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday before concluding the weekend on Sunday.
