Baseball Uses Another Late Comeback to Earn Important Sweep Over Stony Brook

"These were our typical home games this weekend," head coach Greg Mamula said. "Back-and-forth, we put up some big hits and big runs late and get the win, that seems to be our story at home."
Homers against Tyler Strechay in the third and Carter Welch in the fourth pitted the visitors to a 4-0 lead, but Delaware did not flinch. Doubles by Josearmando Diaz and Aidan Kane made it a one-run game.
Joey Loynd stepped in with two runners on in the seventh and demolished a three-run shot to left to give Delaware its first lead of the day.
"With two outs, I was just trying to put the ball in play and get their defense working," Loynd said. "I was hoping to take the lead from there, and seeing the ball go over the fence was a great feeling."
The Seawolves were not done yet, tagging Wyatt Nelson for three runs in the eighth to reclaim the lead at 7-6. However, Delaware once again bounced back.
Diaz hit a leadoff triple and was chased home by a Tyler Leach sacrifice fly. Andrew Amato walked and stole second, paving the way for Kane's second RBI hit of the day, dunking a single into shallow center to give the home team the lead.
"I'm trying to get a good pitch to hit and hit it hard in those situations," Kane said. "I've been sitting on the bench, but I have been ready. I've put the work into practice and pregame so I'm ready when that situation comes, and luckily I came through this weekend."
Bryce Greenly drove in an insurance run and a sacrifice fly by Dan Covino extended the lead to three. Owen Margolis retired the Seawolves in order in the ninth, earning his fifth win of the season in a 10-7 win.
A pivotal series sweep gives Delaware a tie for fifth place with William & Mary.
Greenly, Loynd, Diaz and Kane each recorded multiple hits, while Margolis, Anthony Gubitosi, Nate Rolka and Jack DiLeo pitched scoreless outings.
Delaware returns to action on Wednesday at Penn.
