AUSTIN, TEXAS – All roads led us back to Texas! Megan Albamonti will represent the University of Delaware track & field program at the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Texas, Austin from Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium in Austin, Texas running from June 7-10. The three-time Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) javelin throw champion is set to compete Thursday evening, June 8, at 7:45 p.m. ET/6:45 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
Albamonti put together a strong outdoor season where she captured four wins out of the seven meets she competed in. The Westerly, R.I. native season highlights include her throwing a season-best mark of 55.33m at Raleigh Relays (Mar. 23-25), which currently sits 14th in the NCAA, breaking the Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium record (50.55m) at the Delaware Invitational (Apr. 28) and capturing her third consecutive gold medal at the 2023 CAA Outdoor Championships (May 5-6).
Albamonti's mark at Raleigh Relays proved good enough for her to qualify for her third-straight NCAA East Preliminary Round. As she continued to solidify her name in Delaware history, Albamonti launched her first attempt for 53.04m (third place finish) at regionals to become the first Blue Hen javelin thrower in program history to punch her ticket to nationals.
Albamonti is one of 11 student-athletes representing the CAA. She and Monmouth's men's javelin thrower Evan Niedrowski make up the lone field athletes for the conference. Albamonti is looking to become the first in program history to be crowned a national champion in the javelin throw and she is set to compete in flight two, position three on Thursday.
