NEWARK, Del. – Mike Robinson's seven-goal performance led the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team past Lafayette Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens routed the Leopards 14-6 in Delaware Stadium.
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Robinson led all offensive players in both goals (7) and points (7).
- JP Ward added two goals and three assists for five points while Cam Acchione tallied two goals.
- Freshmen Bryson Kolinsky and Tyler Owings and sophomore Brendan Powers all added single goals.
- Sophomore transfer Hank D'Ambrogi and graduate student Nick Jessen finished with two and three assists, respectively.
- In his first career start, Kevin Ellington held the Leopards off the board in the first half, making six of his 13 total saves in the opening 30:00.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hens were in control from the opening whistle as OJ Morris won the game's first faceoff and 54 seconds later, Robinson found the back of the net to put Delaware up 1-0. By the 5:21 mark, Robinson had a hat trick and three minutes later, produced the golden sombrero with his fourth goal of the contest to close out the first 15 minutes of action. In the second, Robinson picked up where he left off in the first and found the back of the Lafayette net for the fifth time on an assist from Ward. From the 6:54 timestamp to 5:33 until the break, the Hens tacked on three more goals as Ward, Acchione, and Robinson went back-to-back-to-back to give UD an 8-0 edge headed into the locker room.
- The Delaware offense shared the wealth in the second half as Powers got in on the action with the Hens' ninth goal of the game just over a minute into the third quarter. With 6:30 to play in the third, Ward put the Hens in double figures on an assist from Jessen followed by Owings's first collegiate goal on D'Ambrogi's first Blue Hens assist to give UD an 11-0 advantage. With less than two minutes remaining in the quarter, Lafayette found the back of the Delaware cage twice to cut it to 11-2 before the final quarter. In the fourth, the Hens answered with Acchione's second goal of the game to take back a 10-goal lead. The Leopards found their stroke in the fourth as Lafayette outscored the Blue Hens 4-3 down the stretch, but with his first collegiate goal, Kolinsky put the game on ice and sealed the win for the Blue & Gold.
GAME NOTES
- Robinson's seven goals are the most for a Blue Hens player since he himself scored seven against Marist in Delaware's 25-10 win the 2023 NCAA First Roound game.
- Delaware extended its win streak over Lafayette to 34 straight games
- Robinson's 16 total shots were the most for a Blue Hen since he had 16 against Johns Hopkins in April of 2022.
