McCurry, Robinson, and Ward Lead Men's Lacrosse Past St. John's, 17-6

QUEENS, N.Y. – Mike Robinson's six-goal performance led the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team past St. John's 17-6 Saturday afternoon on the road to improve to 2-0 on the year.
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Robinson's six goals led all scorers on the day.
- JP Ward finished with a team-high four assists and tied Robinson with a team-high seven points.
- John McCurry recorded both his first-career goal and hat trick in the same game.
- Nick Jessen scored twice while sophomore Hank D'Ambrogi scored his first Blue Hens goal.
- Kevin Ellington made nine saves in goal while Aidan Koff made two in his first appearance of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- D'Ambrogi, a sophomore transfer, put the Hens on the board first with his first Delaware goal at the 11:22 mark. One minute later, St. John's knotted the game at one apiece, but UD responded with four straight,, including two from Nick Jessen, to put the Blue & Gold ahead 5-1 after the first quarter. In the second, Mike Robinson secured his second straight hat trick while John McCurry tallied his first collegiate goal and first-career hat trick all in the same quarter to give Delaware a 12-3 lead headed into the intermission.
- Ward kicked off the second half with a man-up goal just 41 seconds into the third quarter to give the Hens a comfortable 13-3 lead. Brendan Powers and Ward then went back-to-back at the 9:59 mark and 8:48 mark respectively, to extend the UD lead to 15-3. With 7:05 left in the third, the Johnnies netted their fourth goal of the game on a shot from Brian Kelly, but Robinson responded with his fifth on an assist from McCurry. In the fourth, Robinson put the game on ice with his sixth goal of the game as the Blue Hens cruised to their second straight victory.
GAME NOTES
- McCurry is the first freshman to have three or more goals in a game since Cam Acchione had five in April, 2021.
- Dating back to last season, this is Robinson's sixth straight game with two or more goals and Ward's seventh straight.
- Three Blue Hens tallied three or more goals for the first time since Delaware's 25-10 win over Marist in last season's NCAA First Round game.
