Winburn Wins 50th Career Game AS Softball Splits Two Games On Second Day Of Runnin' Bulldog Classic

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Emily Winburn recorded her 50th career win as University of Delaware softball defeated East Tennessee State 5-2 before falling to Gardner-Webb 3-2 during the second day of the Runnin' Bulldog Classic.

Vs East Tennessee State
- Delaware struck first in the opening inning and put up four runs. Katie Scheivert led off the game with a single and stole second base and Julz Garber reached on an infield hit. Chloe Blantz doubled home Scheivert for the game's first run.
- After Gianna Costaro walked with two outs to load the bases, Julia Boyet cleared them with a triple to score all three runs and give Delaware a 4-0 lead.
- East Tennessee State scored their first run in the third inning on a groundout. Delaware got the run right back after Blantz hit her second triple of the day and Maddie Fife scored her on a sacrifice fly.
- Winburn struck out three in the fourth inning to and stranded two runners on in the fifth.
- Kendall Shank made her season debut in the seventh inning and sealed a 5-2 Delaware win.
- Winburn pitched six innnigs, allowed zero earned runs and zero walks while striking out three.
- Delaware scored in the first inning again on a two-run double by Blantz. Scheivert led off the game with a single and a stolen base and Garber walked before Blantz brought them both home.
- Morgan Hess retired the first eight hitters and held Gardner-Webb hitless into the fifth inning. A two-run single in the fifth for Gardner-Webb tied the game, but Hess stranded two by striking out the final hitter for the third out.
- Gardner-Webb scored an unearned run in the sixth to take the lead, and pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the win.
- Hess gave up one earned run, zero walks, and just four hits in six innings of work.
GAME NOTES
- Winburn joined Carolynn Sloat (63) and Kristi O'Connell (58) as the only pitchers in Delaware history with 50 career wins.
- Boyet had the 13th game in program history with two triples in a game, and the first since Blantz did it against Hampton on May 5, 2023.
- Blantz is hitting .417 (5-12) through the season's first four games.
- Hess has allowed just one earned run, five hits, and one walk in 10.2 innings pitched to begin her Delaware career.
