Track & Field Ready to Soar at 2024 CAA Indoor Championships Starting Thursday

Under the guidance of second-year head coach Kenyetta Iyevbele, 25 enthusiastic Blue Hen athletes, including 10 returning competitors, are geared up to etch their names in history by seizing the indoor championship in grand style.
The Blue Hens have witnessed remarkable performances, notably from freshman standout Kadence Dumas, who has left an indelible mark on the indoor season with consecutive victories in her events. Dumas will take center stage in the 800m race on Thursday, boasting an 11th-place seed time of 2:14.54, which ranks seventh in school history. The Voorhees, N.J. native is also set to contribute to the 4x800m relay on Friday afternoon.
Kosie Nkwonta adds depth to the team's prowess, spearheading the throws event group in both the weight throw and shot put categories. Nkwonta's seventh-seeded mark of 17.31m in the weight throw, a throw that sits fourth in school history, along with her 13th-seeded mark of 13.57m in the shot put, promise to secure crucial points for the Blue Hens.
Returning indoor silver medalist Bridget Joyce aims to ascend the podium once more in the pole vault event, armed with a solid eighth-seeded mark of 3.70m.
Distance runners Leah Clear and Molly Lashley are poised for strong showings in the mile and 5000m races, showcasing eighth and 11th place seed times of 4:58.49 and 17:52.54, respectively.
Leading the charge in the pentathlon is Destiny DeBlock, seeking to surpass her previous fifth-place finish with a career-best 3,282 points performance. Jahnia Hodge aims to contribute significantly in the triple jump after a noteworthy leap of 11.72m, a mark that sits fifth in the history books and is seeded ninth ahead of the championship.
The pursuit of CAA indoor glory commences at 9 a.m. on Thursday with the heptathlon 60m dash and the first field event will start at 11:30 a.m. with the men's pole vault. Additionally, field event champs will be crowned in the pentathlon (9:10 a.m.), women's long jump (11:30 a.m.), women's weight throw (2 p.m.), men's long jump (2:30 p.m.), women's pole vault (3 p.m.), and men's weight throw (4:30 p.m.). Running prelims start at 1:15 p.m., with the last four events of the day – men's 5000m (5:25 p.m.) women's 5000m (5:45 p.m.), men's distance medley relay (6:10 p.m.), and women's distance medley relay (6:30 p.m.) – awarding points and medals as finals.
Championship Friday begins with the resumption of the heptathlon starting at 9:15 a.m. along with the remaining field events: women's high jump (10:15 a.m.), women's shot put (11 a.m.), women's triple jump (11 a.m.), men's shot put (1:30 p.m.), men's triple jump (1:30 p.m.), and men's high jump (2 p.m.). The men's mile race kicks off the running finals slate at Noon, leading to the exhilarating conclusion with the women's 4x400m relay crowning the indoor championship.
