Baseball Splits Double Header Against Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â The University of Delaware baseball program split a pair of games in a double header against Jacksonville on Saturday.
The Dolphins won the first game with a final score of 10-7 while the Blue Hens took game two 14-4

With the double header split, both the Blue Hens and Dolphins record goes to 3-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- In game one, the Blue Hens were led by Aiden Stwert, who went 2-of-4 with one home run, and three RBI's. The offense went 8-of-37 (.216 batting average), drove in seven runs, hit four home runs, walked two times, struck out 13, and left six runners on base.
- On the mound, the Blue Hens started Bryce Greenly. He pitched in three innings, gave up four earned runs off of four hits, walked one batter, and struck out four. In relief was Tyler Stretchay. In four innings, he gave up four runs, one of which was earned, off of four hits, walked one batter and struck out two. Carter Welch finished the game on the mound. He pitched one inning, allowed two runs, one of which was earned, off of a batter and struck out two.
- In game two, Amato and Joey Loynd both had three hit days. Amato went 3-for-3, hit two home runs and drove in six RBIs. Loynd went 3-of-6, and had a solo home run. As a team, the Blue Hens went 16-of-41 (.390 batting average), hit five home runs, drove in 14 RBI's, walked seven times, struck out nine, and left seven runners on base.
- Tyler August started the game on the mound. He pitched in 3.2 innings, allowed four earned runs off of eight hits, walked four batters, and struck out five. He was credited with the decision and is now 2-0 on the season. In relief was Ethan Shaub and Eli Atiya. The two pitched for a combined 5.1 innings, allowing zero runs off just one hit, walked four batters, and struck out six. Â

GAME ONE
- After the Dolphins got out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second, the Blue Hens started chipping away at the lead with an RBI single from Aiden Stewart and a solo home run from Aidan Kane.
- The Dolphins responded with another four run inning, this time in the bottom of the fourth.
- UD continued to chip away at the lead, with two-run home runs from Aaron Graeber in the top of the fifth and Stewart in the seventh. Delaware cut the lead to as little as one run thanks to another home run, this time from Tyler Leach.Â
- The run was too little too late as the Dolphins added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
- The Hens got things going with a six run top of the first inning. The rally was started with a Stewart home run, followed by a Greenly RBI double that scored Joey Loynd, a three-run home run from Andrew Amato, and finished off with a solo home run from Jake Dunion.Â
- The offense continued to dominate as Chris Dengler hit a three-run home run, followed by a Joey Loynd solo home run in the top of the fourth.Â
- Amato added a second three-run home run in the ninth and Brett Lesher hit an RBI single to stretch the lead to 10.
- This is the first time the two programs have faced off in its history.Â
