Men's Lacrosse Set to Host Lafayette to Open the 2024 Campaign

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team embarks on its 76th season as the Blue Hens are set to open the 2024 season at home Saturday, Feb. 10 against Lafayette beginning at noon.

ABOUT THE HENS

Delaware enters the 2024 season off its second CAA title in as many years after going 13-5 overall and 6-1 in league play.
The Blue Hens were picked to finish atop the CAA for the second year in a row as UD received six of the eight first-place votes.
JP Ward was named the CAA Preseason Co-Player of the Year while Mike Robinson, Cam Acchione, and Reed Kurtz were all named to the Preseason All-CAA team.
Ward and Robinson were both named preseason All-America honorable mention by Inside Lacrosse.
The Blue Hens come into play on Saturday ranked 16th in three preseason polls including Inside Lacrosse, USA Lacrosse, and the USILA.
The Hens added 17 new faces for 2024 including 14 freshmen and three transfers, Donny Gayhardt from Colgate, TJ Gravante from The Mount, and Hank D'Ambrogi from Fairfield.
Freshman attack John McCurry was ranked No. 73 on the Inside Lacrosse Power 100 freshmen list

ABOUT THE LEOPARDS

Lafayette comes off a 2023 season that saw the Leopards go 6-10 overall and 3-5 in Patriot League action.
The Leopards faced five nationally ranked teams a season ago, and made its first Patriot League tournament appearance since 2010.
Peter Lehman returns for his senior season at Lafayette, coming off a team-leading 29 goals while Charlie Cunniffe also returns for the Leopards after leading the squad with 27 assists and 46 points a year ago
The Leopards were picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League in 2024, behind Lehigh and ahead of Bucknell.

SERIES HISTORY

This will be the second year in a row the Hens open their season against Lafayette, taking last year's meeting 14-5 in Easton, Pa.
Delaware holds a 41-1 all-time record against the Leopards.
The Hens only loss came during the 1958 season, falling 11-10.
UD has a 33-game win streak over the Lafayette dating back to 1959.
