Baseball Sweeps Towson With 16-7 Win

TOWSON, Md. - The University of Delaware baseball team swept the Towson Tigers with a 16-7 victory on Sunday.
With the win, the Blue Hens overall record improved to 23-19 and a Coastal Athletic Association record of 11-7.Â
In addition, this is the first series sweep for the Blue Hens over a CAA opponent this season.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Six Blue Hens contributed multiple hits on offense, Brett Lesher (3-for-5, 2B), Eric Ludman (2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB), Bryce Greenly (2-for-4, HR, RBI), Chris Dengler (2-for-3, RBI), Aaron Graeber (2-for-3, HR, 4 RBI, BB), and Josearmando Diaz (2-for-4, 3 RBI).Â

Starting on the mound was Dom Velazquez. He pitched 2 innings, allowed one hit and walked one batter. The Tigers scored an unearned run when Velazquez was on the mound.

In relief were Tyler August, Anthony Gubitosi, Owen Margolis and Carter Welch.Â

August pitched three innings, allowed two earned runs off two hits, walked two batters and struck out three.Â

Gubitosi, Margolis and Welch pitched the final four innings. The three gave up four earned runs off four hits, walked four and struck out one batter.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

The Blue Hens offense started clicking right away, scoring six runs over the first three innings.

A Dengler ground out to first base scored Ludman, followed by a two run single from Graeber. Greenly and Ludman both hit solo home runs in the second inning, and Diaz drove in a single in the third. It was 6-1 after the first three innings.

In the fifth, Diaz drove in two more runs off another single, Aiden Stewart scored off a failed pickoff attempt, Greenly grounded into a double play with the bases loaded, scoring Diaz, and Ludman hit his second solo home run of the game.

In the sixth inning, Graeber hit a two run inside the park home run, and in the seventh, Joey Loynd scored off a wild pitch. By then, it was 14-3 Blue Hens.Â

Tanner Donati added two more runs in the top of the ninth off a double to make it 16-6.

UD returns to Bob Hannah Stadium for its first home game in 14 days. The Blue Hens take on George Washington on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m.Â

The Blue Hens defeated GW 18-3 back on March 19 on the road.
