PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - University of Delaware's Emily Winburn threw a complete game against Villanova and the Blue Hens scored four runs in the final three innings to pick up a big road win against the current Big East conference leader, 5-3.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Winburn pitched all seven innings, striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run and two walks.
Katie Scheivert went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored.
Julia Boyet went 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, and a walk.
Julz Garber went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Sydney Shaffer had an RBI double.
Maddie Fife went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
Kristen Luzon hit a pinch hit RBI double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Scheivert and Shaffer both doubled with one out in the first inning to give Delaware an early lead. Winburn struckout three hitters in a scoreless first.
In the second, Winburn induced three groundouts in a perfect inning.
Villanova scratched across an unearned run in the third to tie the game.
Winburn pitched a scoreless fourth with a strikeout and two groundouts.
Delaware retook the lead in the fifth. Fife walked to lead off the inning, Jenna Giattino sacrificed the pinch runner, Anaya Troy over, and Julz Garber singled to third and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Scheivert brought in Troy with a single to right to put Delaware up 2-1.
Villanova took the lead in the fifth after two runs scored on a single and an error.
With two outs in the sixth, Boyet doubled, then Luzon hit a pinch hit double off the top of the center field wall to tie the game. Sofia Hollingsworth pinch ran and scored on an RBI single by Fife, putting Delaware up 4-3.
Winburn stranded a runner at first with a strikeout to end the sixth.
Garber singled and Scheivert reached on an error to begin the seventh, and both executed a double steal to get into scoring position. Gianna Costaro gave Delaware an insurance run with an RBI groundout.
The first two hitters reached base against Winburn in the bottom half of the inning, but Winburn retired the final three to win the game.

GAME NOTES

Winburn recorded her 17th win of the season, tying herself (2023), Jordan Cargile (2017), Carolyn Szymanski (2015), and Kristi O'Connell (1999) for fifth most in a season in program history. She is three away from tying the single-season program record of 20 set by Susan Dugan in 2000.
Winburn's complete game was her 12th of the season, the 48th of her career, and her seventh straight in games she has started. Her 48th complete game ties her with Cheryl Richino for sixth most in program history.
Winburn tied her career-high in strikeouts with a season-best 10, also done on May 11, 2023 against Towson, Feb. 25, 2023 against Connecticut, ans March 6, 2022 vs Florida Atlantic.
Garber has 14 multi-hit games this season.
Boyet hit her fourth triple of the season.
Luzon is 9-for-15 with three extra base hits and seven RBI as a pinch hitter this season.
