Reed Drills 51-Yard Field Goal With 12 Seconds Left to Give Football 25-24 Comeback Homecoming Victory

NEWARK, Del. – K Nate Reed nailed a 51-yard game-winning field goal with 12 seconds left to lift the University of Delaware football team to a come-from-behind 25-24 homecoming victory over the LA Tech Bulldogs on Saturday at Delaware Stadium. The Fightin' Blue Hens jump to 5-4, 3-3 CUSA, while the Bulldogs drop to 5-4, 3-3 CUSA. UD moves to 51-19 all-time on homecoming at Delaware Stadium, including five-straight wins.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Reed connected on a career-high four field goals, tying the most in a single game in school history, including the 51-yard game-winner, a career-long, to go with his second onside kick conversion of the season.
- QB Nick Minicucci went 26-of-52 for 304 yards through the air with two touchdowns, while adding 55 yards on the ground. Minicucci completed a pass to 10 different targets, marking the fifth time this season with at least 10 Hens catching a pass. UD has found at least eight pass catchers in eight of nine games this season.
- WR Sean Wilson crossed the century mark, hauling in five receptions for 107 yards and a career-long 51 yard catch. Wilson crossed the 100-yard threshold for the second-straight game.
- WR Kyre Duplessis led the Hens with six catches to go with 78 yards and a touchdown.
- LB Gavin Moul tallied 11 tackles, his fifth game this season with 10 or more and seventh of his career.
- CB Nate Evans recorded his first interception of the season to go with a career-best six tackles.
- DE Brandon Gorham notched his second sack of the year, while Moul and DT Trace Scott III combined for another.
- For the second-consecutive week, Delaware's first points came via a Reed field goal, this time a 28-yard conversion to make it 3-0 with 2:59 left in the first quarter.
- LA Tech took its first lead of the contest on a 37-yard rushing touchdown to go up 7-3 with six seconds left in the opening frame.
- Reed knocked in a 41-yard field goal with 11:05 left in the second quarter to bring it to a one-point game.
- Evans picked off the Bulldogs with 10:21 to go in the opening half, setting the Blue & Gold up at its own 40-yard line.
- Reed's third field goal of the half gave the Hens a 9-7 advantage with seven ticks left, a score they took into the locker room at the break.
- UD found paydirt on a Minicucci to Duplessis connection in the corner of the endzone from 14-yards out to give the Hens a 16-7 advantage with 2:44 left in third. It capped a nine-play, 96-yard scoring drive, the Hens longest of the season in terms of yardage.
- Delaware's defense held firm on the next possession with a redzone stand, only allowing a field goal to bring it to 16-10 in favor of the home team.
- LA Tech took a 17-16 lead with 3:09 left after a 13-yard touchdown run.
- The Bulldogs jumped an out route on 4th and 10 in Blue Hens' territory and took it to the house to take a 24-16 lead with 2:23 left.
- Minicucci found Sessoms on a three-yard sprint to the pylon with 34 seconds left, setting up a game-tying two-point conversion opportunity that ultimately failed, leaving a 24-22 score.
- Reed converted a successful onside kick attempt with 33 seconds left in regulation. UD gained six yards in 21 seconds, setting Reed up for a 51-yard field goal attempt that he drilled to put the Hens in front 25-24 with 12 seconds remaining.
- Reed's 51-yard field goal is the seventh-longest field goal in program history. His two connections from 40 or more yards tied the most in a single game in program history. His current streak of eight-consecutive field goal places him in a tie for the fifth-longest streak in school history.
- Delaware improves to 21-5 under Ryan Carty when scoring first.
- UD moves to 5-1 this season when leading at the break and 26-2 under Carty.
- The Blue & Gold advance to 5-0 when leading after three quarters this year and 29-1 under Carty.
- The Hens move to 10-2 under Carty when wearing the traditional blue on gold uniforms.
