NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball allowed just one hit in a 9-1, five-inning victory over Coppin State on Thursday. The Blue Hens have won three consecutive games.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Billie Kerwood allowed one hit and struck out nine in four innings, with just one run and zero walks.
Sydney Shaffer went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
Gianna Costaro went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and run scored.
Chloe Blantz had a two-run single.
Katie Scheivert walked twice and recorded a hit and run scored.
Morgan Hess, Mary Beth Cahalan, Sorella Gallucci, Lillie Scheivert, and Kristen Luzon all had hits, with Cahalan recording a double and two walks.
Cahalan, Lillie Scheivert, and Veronica Dioemde also added RBIs.
Josie Crossman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kerwood pitched a perfect first inning with a pair of strikeouts. After an error in the second, she struck out the next three for two hitless innings to begin the day.
Delaware scored three runs in the second. UD loaded the bases after a walk from Cahalan and singles from Gallucci and Luzon. Cahalan scored on a wild pitch and Blantz hit a two-run single to put Delaware up three.
Kerwood struck out the side in the third with three swinging strikeouts.
The Blue Hens added another run in the fourth after loading the bases again, as Diomede scored Grace Hausamann on a groundout.
Coppin State recorded their first and only hit with a leadoff double in the fourth, and brought a run in on a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly.
Delaware broke the game open in the fourth with four runs. Costaro doubled in Shaffer and then came around to score on an error. Cahalan hit a double to score Hess and thrn came around to score after a groundout from Lillie Scheivert to go up 8-1.
Crossman pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning with a strikeout. Katie Scheivert singled to lead off the fifth, stole second, advanced to third on a Shaffer single, and scored the game-ending run on an error to give Delaware the win.

GAME NOTES

Kerwood's nine strikeouts were a season-best, and her most since having 12 against Charleston on April 26, 2024.
Shaffer recorded her fifth multi-hit game of the season.
Blantz recorded her third multi-RBI game of the season.
Costaro has scored a run in three consecutive games.
Luzon is 4-for-her-last-4 as a pinch hitter.
Delaware has won all 11 games against Coppin State in their program's history, outscoring the Eagles 76-7.
Delaware's win was their fourth by run-rule this season, and fourth in their last six wins.
