NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's basketball has added transfer guard Justyn Fernandez, head coach Martin Ingelsby announced Monday.
"We're thrilled to have Justyn join our Blue Hen basketball family," Ingelsby said. "He's a gifted athlete, a three-level scorer, and a relentless competitor. More importantly, he's a program kid — someone who plays hard, puts the team first, and elevates everyone around him."
The Richmond, Va. native transfers in from Providence where he spent the previous two seasons. He also spent at George Mason and followed head coach Kim English to Friar town. After missing the 2023-24 season with a leg injury, Fernandez appeared in 24 games with four starts for the Friars in 2024-25. He averaged 10 minutes and 3.6 points per game.
In 2022-23 at George Mason, Fernandez saw action in 33 games with 13 starts. He averaged 4.1 points in 13.9 minutes per game as a true freshman for the Patriots.
Fernandez was a consensus four-star prospect coming out of high school. He ranked No. 74 in the class of 2022 by ESPN.com and No. 80 in 247 Sports composite. Fernandez chose George Mason over Florida, Tennessee, NC State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Wake Forest, Boston College, Providence and Rhode Island.
He spent the first three seasons of his high school career at Monacan High School (16.6 ppg as sophomore) and Virginia Episcopal (17.0 ppg in 2020-21) in greater Richmond before enrolling at IMG Academy in the fall of 2021.
