NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team downs Loyola (Md.) 4-0 at Grant Stadium on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens overall record becomes 3-0-0, for their best start through three games since 2016.

"Our mentality tonight was superb," head coach Tommy McMenemy said. "I'm so proud of how we handled the important moments at the business ends of the field. We scored three high-end goals in terms of ball movement and the commitment to our runs, and added a set piece to help kill the game off. I felt we were still a little sloppy in possession at times, but our work rate out of possession was off the charts, and it's exciting to see these guys really buying into their roles."

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Marius Stenner (2), Rich Monath, and Charles Giordano scored for the hens.

- This was Stenner's 13th and 14th career goals, Monath's ninth, and Giordano's second.

- Stenner's first half goal was assisted by Liam Penny and Freddy Jeffreys, and his second was assisted by Jeffreys and Monath. Monath's goal was assisted by Joe Richards, and Giordano's was by Penny.

- JoJo Elliott Jr. collected his third career shutout in as many games with four saves on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The first Blue Hens' goal by Stenner came in the 21st minute off of assists from Penny and Jeffreys.

- Just over three minutes later, Monath fired one to the top left corner of the goal to put UD ahead 2-0 at halftime. Richards recorded his first career assist on this goal.

- At the end of the 54th minute of play, Giordano scored off of a rebound from an original shot on goal by Penny.

- Stenner scored his 14th career goal in the 74th minute off of assists from Monath and Jeffreys.

GAME NOTES

- Elliott is currently one of just two freshman goalkeepers in the NCAA with three shutouts.

UP NEXT
The men's soccer program hosts American for a night game on Saturday, September 6 at 7 pm. The six seniors and one graduate student will be honored for senior night.
