PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Casey Lyons (Georgetown, Ontario/Berkshire) and sophomore Jamie Schwartz (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) each posted four points Sunday afternoon as the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team defeated Drexel, 9-6, at Vidas Field.
Lyons led all scorers with four goals while Schwartz (bottom right) collected two goals and a game-best two assists.
Lyons added two groundballs and a draw control for the Blue Hens (10-5, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association).
With her two tallies, McCartney moved into a tie for seventh in Delaware career history with 147 goals.
Drexel (3-11, 0-4 CAA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead to open play, but Delaware responded with six straight goals to hold a 6-2 advantage with just under 20 minutes left on the game clock. The Blue Hens finished with three more goals for the victory.
Alex ZaugraNadia Pelham-Lacey and Devin Nihill logged two goals apiece for the Dragons. Goalie Teresha Bradley led all players with five groundballs. Bradley was credited with the loss by allowing nine goals with eight saves.
“The team grinded it out and found a way to win. I am really proud of them for making adjustments in the second half in order to build a lead. After we generated momentum off of winning the draw and scoring, we were able to pick them apart in their pressure out defense and find the easy shot. It was a true team effort.”
Caitlin McCartney passed Casey McCrudden (2005-08) in program history and is now tied for seventh all-time with 147 career goals with Ann Pasquariello (1979-82).
