The teams traded four goals through the first 10 minutes of the contest, before three straight UD tallies by Shannon Hawley, Coley Ricci and Schwartz put the Blue Hens in front 5-2 at the 16:19 mark of the opening half. Villanova scored three of the next five goals to pull within a pair, before Hale scored an unassisted goal with 38 seconds on the clock to give Delaware an 8-5 advantage at the half.
The Blue Hens then scored three of the first four goals of the second period, all coming from Lyons to Schwartz including an incredible over the head pass in front of the cage, to increase the margin to 11-6 with 21:35 to play.
Kelsey Denihan answered for the Wildcats at the 15:13 mark but Delaware would hold Villanova scoreless the rest of the way, as Devyn Heidelbaugh scored her first goal of the campaign in between a pair of Gohsler tallies to conclude the scoring.
“The ball just seemed to work around our offense well tonight,” Schwartz stated. “Casey (Lyons) was on fire which made it really easy for me to put the ball in the back of the net, along with everybody else.”
The Blue Hens will look for their fifth consecutive win on Saturday when the Blue Hens host Monmouth at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
