NEWARK, Del. – Junior Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) continued her hot start to the year by tallying four goals, but it wasn't enough as #rv/-- Delaware fell, 9-7, to #11/11 Penn Saturday afternoon at an unseasonably warm and sunny Delaware Stadium.
Gohsler (at left), the reigning CAA Player of the Week who posted a career-high six goals last weekend, added a draw control and caused turnover for the Hens.
Freshmen Christine Long (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) and Sydney Rausa (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) connected twice on the day as Long registered the first two goals of her career and Rausa was credited with the assists.
Senior co-captain Coley Ricci (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) guided the defensive unit with five draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Junior goalie Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) collected three saves with two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Caroline Cummings set a new career-high with five goals for the Quakers (1-0) while Britt Brown collected a career-best 14 saves.
“We played tough today. I'm proud of our effort as there are some categories we beat Penn in and they're a quality team. For an early season game, there is no doubt we have a lot of ways to get better. We will keep working to add depth to the game plan and execute in pressure situations to come out on top. I have a lot of confidence that as a team and as a program that's a challenge we're going to step up to.”
