Pair of Blue Hens Rewrite History To Open The Track & Field 2022-23 Season

BOSTON, Mass. –The University of Delaware track & field team head up North to Boston, Mass. on Saturday to open the 2022-23 season at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University inside Track & Tennis Center. The Blue Hens only competed in the 5000m event and shined through by rewriting the school history books in the lone indoor meet of the 2022 calendar year.
"Overall, we had a good showing at the meet," said head coach Kenyetta Ivyvele. "We had some breakthrough performances which is always nice coming off a cross country season. Now, we have a baseline that we will continue to work off of and we are looking forward to continuing on improving on our marks as we head into the new year. I am very proud of the team's efforts today."
Autumn Sands carried over her cross country dominance to the track as she led the way for the Blue Hens in her indoor debut by running a time of 17:00.16, which was good enough for 88th place. Following Sands was Sarah Daniels, who also added her name to the record books with a time of 17:11.78 (97th place). Sands' and Daniels times now sits third and eighth, respectively, in school history.
Nina Sgambelluri finished the race in a personal-best time of 17:36.29 (104th place), Hannah Lindrgren crossed the finish line 17:59.00 (111th place) and Molly Lashley ran a personal-best time of 17:59.44 (112th place). Katie Hally kicked things off for the Blue Hens earlier in the day with a time of 18:18.72 (115th place).

The Blue Hens will open the 2022 calendar year at the Lions Indoor Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday, Jan. 14.
