Softball Preview: Villanova

» The University of Delaware softball team will play its final nonconference weekend as it travels to Villanova for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. First pitch in game one is set for 12 p.m. at the Villanova Softball Complex. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was pushed back a day due to the inclement weather forecast.

» The Blue Hens are 15-7 on the season after sweeping a home doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday. Delaware took the first game 4-2 behind a complete-game effort from Emilly Winburn and a pair of two-run doubles in the first inning by Brittney Mendoza and Morgan Olynyk. A two-run double by Emily Blum gave UD the lead for good in a 3-1 comeback victory in game two. Graceyn Frost picked up the win in the circle with 5.0 innings of shutout relief, scattering two hits with five strikeouts.

» Villanova enters Saturday's doubleheader with a 9-15 overall record and an 0-2 mark in the BIG EAST. The Wildcats are coming off of a split of two games against fellow CAA opponent Towson on Wednesday. They are batting .245 as a team while Megan Kern leads the way with a .333 clip. She has hit a team-high five doubles and is tied with Ally Jones for the lead with five home runs. The pitching staff owns a 3.85 ERA and opponents are hitting .293 against the Wildcats. Caroline Pellicano has a 1.45 ERA in 19.1 innings, while Paige Rauch is 5-4 with 63 strikeouts in 51.1 innings.
