RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Delaware track and field team showed out at the three-day Raleigh Relays (Mar. 24-26), hosted by NC State from Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C. Helping rewrite the program's history books was a trio of Blue Hens in Megan Albamonti, Chioma Njoku, both headlining their respective field events, and Susanna Weir shining on the track.
"It was a really good weekend in Raleigh," said head coach Ryan Waite. "Megan, Chioma and Susanna broke school records in their respective events, and everyone else competed well against high caliber competition. This was the biggest meet this weekend on the east coast and to have our athletes compete and represent Delaware the way they did made the staff proud."
Cierra Crane opened the competition for the Blue & Gold on Thursday in the pole vault where she captured 14th place with a 3.60m (11' 9.75") mark.
After throwing the javelin four times, it was lucky number five for Albamonti, as she launched one for a personal best and a new school record mark of 50.62m (166' 1"), which was good enough for fourth place. Albamonti surpassed her 2021 throw of 49.60m (162'09"), a mark she achieved at the 2021 CAA Track & Field Championships.
Susanna Weir closed out the Blue Hens day one of events in the 10,000m run, a race that she was competing in for the first time in her career. Weir, for the second time this track season, set a new school record time of 34:24.34 (27th place), eclipsing teammate Jessica Pidgeon's 2021 time of 35:08.81.
Gabrielle Holliday kick started Friday's events by tossing 42.26m (24th place) in the discus throw. Trinity Tapper ran a 12.00 to earn 26th place in the 100m dash while Halima Scott ran 56.40 to finish in 23rd place in the 400m dash.
Jessica Harding opened Saturday's events for the Blue Hens in the 800m. Harding ran a time of 2:13.71, which was good enough to place her fourth in her heat and 60th overall. Marie-Frederique Poulin finished the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.54 to place third in her heat and ninth overall. Tapper also ran the 200m in 25.71, finishing her heat in fifth place (26th overall).
Competing in the hammer throw were Bethany Clement and Chioma Njoku. Njoku set a new program and personal record of 55.17m, where she won her flight and finished 11th overall. She surpassed teammate Clement's 2021 mark of 54.63m. Clement launched the hammer 52.52m to place sixth in her flight and 21st place overall.
The Blue & Gold 4x400 relay team of Scott, Poulin, Alyssa Armor and Jalynn Sharp finished the race with a time of 3:52.90, to take fourth place in their heat, 17th overall, concluding the three-day outing.
