PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – Looking to hoist its first-ever Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship in program history, the University of Delaware rowing team is prepared to compete in the 2022 CAA Rowing Championships on Sunday, May 15. The Blue Hens will take to the waters of Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J. for the fifth-straight season.
The Blue Hens totaled 23 points to finish tied for third in last year's championship as Julia Rothstein landed on the All-Conference team. Of the scoring boats, the Varsity Four squad led the way for the Blue and Gold with a third-place finish. The Third Varsity Eight boat placed second in their race.
"We hope to row to the best of our abilities, or as close to it as one can reasonably expect," said head coach Kevin Gruber. "I recognize that's standard coach-speak / cliché', but we're seeded sixth across the scoring crews and I'm guessing the middle-to-back of the packs could be tight. We are looking to show our true speed and the results will shake out however they're meant to shake out."
Northeastern enters the competition as the seven-time defending champions and has won 10 of the 12 CAA titles in the event's history. The action begins at 11 a.m. with the Third Varsity Eight followed by the Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and concluding with the First Varsity Eight.
Gruber added, "We're proud to be a CAA Rowing school, it's a great program with class coaches, and the conference runs a first-class championship regatta. The depth of CAA speed this spring is impressive, we're excited to see how we stack up."
