Track and Field Finishes in Fourth at ECAC Outdoor Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware track and field team put together another impressive showing this weekend (May 14-15) at the 45th ECAC Outdoor Championships from Walter J. Zable Stadium at Cary Field in Williamsburg, Va. The Blue Hens led the way on day one of the meet with 35 points before concluding the meet totaling 53 points to claim fourth place.
Aja Davis and Trinity Tapper both showed out in the 100m prelims to open the championship. Davis obliterated her personal-best time and set a new school record with a time of 11.58 to win the race and qualify for the finals. Tapper followed with a PB time of 11.88 to move to fourth place in program history. In the finals, Davis finished in second place with a time of 11.81 and Tapper crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 12.05.
Chioma Njoku earned second place in the hammer throw after tossing for a mark of 55.43m while Bethany Clement followed by throwing for 50.34 to capture ninth place.
Davis joined Halima Scott in competing in the 200m race. Scott finished the race in 24.28, good enough for seventh place while Davie closed out her strong weekend by posting a PB time of 24.38 (eighth place) to become the No. 8 performer in school history. Scott also ran the 400m in 55.46 for a seventh-place finish.
Jessica Harding ran the 800m in 2:09.94 to finish eighth overall. Harding's time moves up to seventh place in school history.
Leading the way in the 3000m Steeplechase for the Blue & Gold were Tina Capparell and Sarah Daniels. Capparell used a time of 10:27.30 to capture third place while Daniels' placed sixth with a PB time of 10:42.71, which now sits third in school history.
Julien Webster and Susanna Weir had side-by-side finishes in the 10,000m. Webster posted a personal best time of 36:13.52, good enough for third place, while Weir crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 36:13.93. Webster's time is now seventh in program history.
Alicia Lehman shined in the long jump where she leaped 5.77m to earn third place for the Blue Hens. Danielle Rochester finished in 15th place with a mark of 5.26m. In the triple jump, Ruby Mullen leaped for 11.68m, finishing in 13th place while Marie-Frederique Poulin took 16th place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.62. Gabrielle Holliday (39.25m, 18th place) and Emily Eckard (38.75m, 20th place) competed in the discus throw.

The Blue Hens is set to return to action Thursday, May 26 to kick off the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships-East Preliminary Rounds in Bloomington, Ind.
