Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Hofstra

"After a disappointing loss on Tuesday, I was really proud of how our guys bounced back in game one today," head coach Greg Mamula said. "We were really good offensively in game one. Game two, the offense didn't carry over, but all in all, we gave ourselves a chance to win."
Game One: Delaware 18, Hofstra 7
Fighting back from an early 1-0 deficit, the Hens piled on six runs in the first inning, knocking three doubles and never looking back up 6-1.
The home run ball came out in the fourth inning, as three Blue Hens left the yard. Bryce Greenly opened the festivities with a solo shot and Joey Loynd immediately followed with an opposite-field shot to right to make it 8-1, his first long ball of the day. Loynd added another home run in the fifth.
"Joey's been really clutch, he's had big at-bats for us in some huge situations," Mamula said. "His [number of] RBIs reflect that."
With the bases loaded, Brett Lesher smoked a ball to left field, hitting his first career grand slam, and knocking in four of his career-high six RBIs in the contest.
Delaware scored three more runs in the seventh and Joey Silan held the Pride off the board for the remainder of the game, earning his first save of the season.
Game Two: Hofstra 6, Delaware 3
Delaware took an early lead on an Aidan Kane groundout in the second game, but it was short-lived as the Pride tacked on a pair of runs in the third inning against Greenly.
The Hens knotted the game up in the bottom half, but Hofstra once again fought back, adding a run in each of the next three innings.
Reliever Dan Frake came into the game for the final three innings after Carter Welch, tossing three scoreless frames and striking out five, keeping the Blue Hens in the game by getting out of some jams.
"[Dan] just keeps getting better. Ever since he has dropped down to sidearm, he has had great success," Mamula said. "It's been a huge bonus for our bullpen."
Despite an RBI single by Jake Dunion in the sixth, the Pride kept the Hens off the board for the remainder of the game, winning 6-3.
The rubber match is slated for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Chris Grome will be on the bump for the Blue & Gold.
