Women's Lacrosse Defeated In Overtime Against William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Delaware women's lacrosse was defeated by William & Mary on Saturday, 13-12, in overtime. Danielle Livornese scored four goals to equal a season-high, while Riley Gillin and Lizzie Yurchak each scored a pair of goals. Gillin added three assists as well, with Yurchak handing out two. McKenzie Didio, Keira Grant, Delaney McDaniel, and Morgan Gore also scored one goal each.
Madison Hranicka moved into the top-five all-time in program history in caused turnovers, recording five to give her 61 for her career. It is also the 11th game in program history in which a player had five caused turnovers in a game. She, along with Emma Hoffman, both scooped up four ground balls too, with Hoffman also causing two turnovers. Sam Schelling had seven draw controls, and Yurchak had six and Livornese had five.
Delaware held a slim lead after the first period, 3-2. Livornese tied the game at one with her first goal of the game, then McDaniel and Gore scored the final two goals to give Delaware the lead after the first 15 minutes.
After William & Mary tied the game to start off the second half, Delaware scored three straight goals to take a 6-3 lead. Livornese, Gillin, and Didio all scored for the Blue Hens in a span of 80 seconds, with McDaniel, Rosa, and Yurchak all recording assists. After back-to-back goals by The Tribe, Livornese capped off the half with her third goal of the game, with help from Yurchak, to take a 7-5 lead.
Both squads played evenly in the third with two goals each. Grant and Yurchak both began the quarter with goals before The Tribe answered back with two of their own. Gillin assisted on Grant's goal at the 13:11 mark.
Yurchak and Gillin extended the Delaware lead to 11-8 with 13:06 remaining with goals. Four straight goals by William & Mary gave them the lead, but Livornese tied the game with 3:09 remaining.
The Tribe then scored first in overtime to win.
Hranicka passed Erin Zimmerman in career-caused turnovers to claim sole possession of fifth place on the all-time Delaware leaderboard with 61. The only players for Delaware with at least 60 caused turnovers since 2001 are Erin Wein (126), Chantae Simms (90), Caitlin McCartney (86), Buckey Gohsler (80), and Lindsey Greer (62). Hranicka also recorded the 12th game in Delaware history, and first since Chantae Simms vs Oregon on March 9, 2019, to have at least five caused turnovers.
Livornese tied her season-high in goals with four, last done on Feb. 25 against Old Dominion, and recorded her fifth hat trick of the season. Didio has now scored in three consecutive games. Gillin had a season-high five points with her two goals and three assists.
Delaware will travel to Hofstra on April 8 for a noon start.
