Baseball Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven in Victory Over Saint Joseph’s

"It's important to win all types of baseball games," head coach Greg Mamula said. "You have to win the ugly game, the low-scoring game and the high-scoring game, and today was the ugly win."
After the Hawks tagged Chris Grome for three runs in the opening inning, Delaware had a brief answer back in the bottom half, as Dan Covino smacked his seventh home run of the season to make it 3-1.
The Hawks scored two more runs before the floodgates opened for the Delaware offense in the fourth inning. Tyler Leach got the scoring started with a single, and several hits later, Joey Loynd came up with the bases loaded in a tie game and destroyed a pitch to left field to make it an eight-run frame. The Hens chased across one more run, leading 10-5.
The Hens' offense went quiet for a few innings after as Saint Joseph's knotted the game at ten apiece in the seventh.
In the bottom half, the Blue & Gold went back in front thanks to a clutch single by Leach. Two more runs came across on a JJ Freeman single.
"I just felt more relaxed [at the plate today]," Leach said. "Felt good to come through with some big opportunities and help the team get the win."
Owen Margolis settled down the game, firing three scoreless innings to earn the 13-10 victory.
Every member of Delaware's starting lineup recorded a hit, while Freeman, Loynd, Leach, Andrew Amato and Brett Lesher had multiple hits.
The Blue Hens have a quick turnaround, traveling to Arlington to take on George Washington at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
