Men's Lacrosse Has Record-Breaking Day In 25-10 Rout Over Marist in NCAA Tournament

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's lacrosse break multiple NCAA Tournament program records in the 25-10 Opening Round win over Marist on Wednesday, May 10 at Delaware Stadium.
The Blue Hens broke the record for most goals in an NCAA Tournament game, surpassing the previous record of 20 goals set last season against Robert Morris.
Additionally, individual program records were broken by Mike Robinson for scoring the most goals in an NCAA Tournament game with seven, surpassing Tye Kurtz who held the record at five. Kurtz, and Robinson, also broke the record for most points in an NCAA Tournament game with eight.
Defensively, Owen Grant broke his own program record for most caused turnovers in a season with 36. Last season, he set the record with 35. He now has 125 caused turnovers in his career.
With the win, the Blue Hens improve their record to 13-4 overall, and extend their win-streak to three games. The Red Foxes season ends with a 10-8 overall record.
Delaware travels to Durham, N.C. to take on top seeded Duke on Sunday, May 14 at 5 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Blue Hens got out to a 5-3 lead in the first quarter, they out-scored the Red Foxes 10-2 in the second quarter, which is the most goals scored in a quarter in program history in the NCAA Tournament. During the run, the Blue Hens had multiple goals scored by Kurtz, Nick Jessen, and Robinson. The 15 goals scored was the most goals scored in a half by the Blue Hens in an NCAA tournament game.
UD kept rolling in the second half, and out scored the Red Foxes 8-2 in the third quarter, making it an 18-4 run between the second and third quarters. Robinson, Ward, and Cam Acchione combined for six of the eight goals scored in the fourth quarter.
As a team the Blue Hens outshot the Red Foxes 64-25, and had a 37-19 shots-on-goal advantage. Defensively, the Blue Hens caused nine of the Red Foxes 16 total turnovers while only committing just six.
Individually, Robinson, Kurtz, Jessen Ward, and Acchione each scored a hat trick. Robinson led with seven, Kurtz had five, Ward had four, Jessen and Acchione each had three. For Jessen, it was his first career hat trick.
