Delaware Hosts Marist for the Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's lacrosse is set to host Marist in the Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.

If the Blue Hens win on Wednesday, they will travel to Durham, N.C. to take on top seed Duke on Sunday, May 14 at 5 p.m.

- Wednesday's matchup is the seventh all-time meeting between the Blue Hens and Red Foxes. The Blue Hens are undefeated in the series history, boasting a 6-0 record. These two teams met last season in Newark where the Blue Hens defeated the Rex Foxes 18-9.
- The Blue Hens enter the NCAA Tournament with a 12-4 record.
- The Blue Hens are coming off an 13-10 win over Stony Brook in the CAA Championship. The Blue Hens captured their sixth CAA Tournament Championship of all time, winning back-to-back tournament championships for the first time since 2010-2011
- In the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Hens boast a 5-7 record all time.
- The last time the Blue Hens were in the NCAA Tournament was back in 2022. They defeated Robert Morris 20-8 in the Opening Round, and followed that up with one of the most stunning upsets in tournament history, defeating Georgetown 10-9.
- For Ben DeLuca, this is the third appearance in the NCAA Tournament as a head coach, and 13th all-time appearance in his 23-year coaching career. In 2013, DeLuca led Cornell to an appearance in the NCAA semifinals. The following year, as an assistant coach at Duke, the Blue Devils went on to win the National Championship.
- Ward and Kurtz lead the way on offense for the Blue Hens. They both are tied for the team lead in points with 76. Kurtz leads in goals with 49, Ward leads in assists with 40.
- Defensively, the Blue Hens are led by the trio of Owen Grant, Joe Speers, and Tate Wasson. The three have caused 20 or more turnovers on the season. Grant leads the way with 34, Speers has 25, and Wasson has 22. Wasson caused seven turnovers during the CAA Tournament.
- Marist enters Wednesday's contest with a 10-7 overall record after defeating Siena 12-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
- In the MAAC Tournament, the Red Foxes out scored their opponents 60-33 over the three game-stretch.
- Offensively, the Red Foxes are led by Jojo Pirreca and Jamison Embury. Pirreca leads the Red Foxes in goals with 44, and points with 64. In the MAAC tournament, scored 11 goals, and three assists, including a six-goal game against Quinnipiac. Embury leads in assists with 24, and is second in points with 63. In the MAAC tournament, Embury had multiple six-goal games.
- Defensively, the Red Foxes are led by Delaware transfer Aiden McCaffrey and Kyle Stofko. The two have more than 25 caused turnovers on the season. McCaffrey has 30, while Stofko has 27. McCaffrey and Stofko are two of five players who have more than 10 caused turnovers on the season.
- In goal, Noble Smith, and Daniel O'Meara have split time in net. Smith has started in 10 games, boasts a 4-5 record, has 12.32 goals against average and .467 save percentage. O'Meara has started in seven games, posted a 6-2 record, and 11.68 goals against average. In the MAAC Tournament, O'Meara posted a .544 save percentage and 10.33 goals against average.
