Baseball Defeats Delaware State in Route One Rivalry

The Blue Hens are now 2-1 on the season with the win over the Hornets.Â
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Individually, the Blue Hens were led by Bryce Greenly, Aidian Kane, and Aaron Graeber. The three combined to hit 5-of-12 and combined for 10 of the Blue Hens 14 RBI's
- Starting on the mound was Doug Marose. He pitched 2 innings, gave up four earned runs off four hits, and struck out two batters. Alex Tawa, Carter Welch, Elias Conway, Nate Rolka, Christian Colmery and Anthony Gubitosi pitched in relief. The six pitchers pitched a combined seven innings, struck out eight batters, walked seven, and gave up four earned runs off four hits. Tawa was credited with the win.Â
- As a team, the Blue Hens hit 11-of-34 (.323 batting average), hit two doubles (Greenly, Graeber), one home run (Jackson Tyer), and drew 14 walks compared to seven strikeouts.Â
- After the Hornets opened the game with a four run first inning, the Blue Hens started chipping away at the Hornets lead with RBI groundouts from Graeber in the bottom of the first inning, and Brett Lesher in the bottom of the second inning.Â
- UD put up five runs in the third inning, all five runs came from five different players. Graeber started the run with an RBI double, followed by RBI singles from Kane and Andrew Amato, and finished with a Greenly walk and an Aidan Stewart sacrifice fly.
- The Blue Hens had multiple three-run innings in the fifth and seventh. In the fifth, Delaware earned runs off a Graeber fielder's choice, and a two run single from Kane. In the seventh inning, Bryce Greenly had a bases-clearing three-RBI double.Â
- Tyer finished off the game with a pinch hit solo home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning.Â
GAME NOTESÂ
- Tuesday was the 62nd all-time meeting between the Blue Hens and Hornets. The win is the 50th win in the program's history against Delaware State, and it's now 2-0 against DSU under head coach Greg Mamula.Â
The Blue Hens return to Jacksonville as they take on Jacksonville University from Feb. 23-25. Friday's game is set to start at 6 p.m.
