Baseball Splits Double Header Against North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. -Â The University of Delaware baseball team split a double header with North Carolina A&T on Saturday, April 20.
The Blue Hens defeated the Aggies 9-8 in game one and lost the second game 11-6.Â
With the results, the Blue Hens overall record improves to 20-18 overall and 8-7 in Coastal Athletic Association play.Â
GAME ONE

In game one, Joey Loynd (2-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI), Andrew Amato (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB) and Tyler Leach (2-for-3, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB) had multiple hits.

Ethan Shaub started on the mound in game one. He pitched two innings, allowed two earned runs off three hits, walked and struck out a batter. Tyler August, Eli Atiya and Anthony Gubitosi pitched in relief.Â

August went 2.1 innings, allowed five earned runs off five hits, struck out three batters and walked two. Atiya went 3.2 innings, allowed one earned run off three hits and struck out three batters. He was credited with the decision and is now 3-2. Gubitosi pitched the final inning, walked two and struck out two batters and picked up his fourth save of the season.

The Blue Hens got out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings thanks to a two run home run from Amato and a solo home run from Leach.

After the Aggies tied the game at 3-3, Loynd hit a three run home run in the top of the fifth.
After the Aggies took the lead at 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth, Leach hit his second home run of the game and Stewart gave the Blue Hens the lead off a sacrifice fly. -
Both teams scored in the ninth. Gubitosi struck out the final two batters to secure the win for UD
GAME TWO

Offensively, Jackson Tyer led the way going 3-for-3 with a double and a walk. Other Blue Hens with multiple hits were Joey Loynd (3-for-5, 2B, RBI), and Aaron Graeber (2-for-6, HR, 3 RBI).

Dom Velazquez started the game for the Blue Hens. He pitched in 2.1 innings, allowed two runs off three hits, struck out and walked one batter. Tyler Strechay, Carter Welch and Owen Margolis came in relief.

Strechay pitched 3.2 innings, allowed five runs, four of which were earned, off six hits, walked two batters and struck out one. Welch pitched 1.1 innings, allowed four earned runs off two hits, walked two batters and struck out one and was credited with the decision. Margolis pitched the final 0.2 innings.Â

The Aggies put up two runs in the bottom of the third and fourth to make it a 4-0 game.

The Blue Hens fought their way back with a six run sixth inning. Leach hit a two run home run, followed by a three run Graeber home run, and an RBI double from Loynd.

NC A&T responded with a five run bottom of the seventh inning and two more in the bottom of the eighth to make it 11-6.Â

The Blue Hens travel to Philadelphia to take on St. Joe's in a midweek non conference game on Tuesday, April 23 at 3 p.m.
