Softball Sets Program Record For Consecutive Conference Victories in 19-0 Blowout of Towson

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Sydney Shaffer went 3-for-3 with a walk, falling a triple shy of the cycle. She drove in six runs and scored three.Â
- Katie Scheivert went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Her four runs scored tied a program record.Â
- Ryleigh Thomas hit a three-run home run and scored two runs.Â
- Chloe Blantz and Morgan Hess were 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.Â
- Veronica Diomede went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.Â
- Sorella Gallucci had two hits and two runs scored.Â
- Ellie Talley scored two runs.Â
- Kerwood pitched 4.1 shutout innings, allowed just two hits and no walks, and struck out eight.Â
- Josie Crossman recorded the final two outs.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Kerwood threw a perfect first inning with two strikeouts. Delaware came out on fire and scored five runs in the bottom half inning, all with two outs. Scheivert walked and Shaffer singled to put two runners aboard for Hess, who singled them in to put UD ahead. Thomas delivered the key blow with a three-run home run to cap off the five-run inning.Â
- Kerwood struck out the side in the second, giving her five strikeouts in a row.Â
- Delaware erupted for 10 runs in the second. Shaffer drove in five runs in the inning, hitting a three-run home run and driving in two with a single. Scheivert drove in two runs in the inning with a single and a double. Kristen Luzon also had a pinch-hit two run single.Â
- Kerwood struck out a batter each in the third and fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, Delaware scored four more runs. Scheivert, Blantz, and Shaffer all had RBI base hits in succession and Hess scored on a wild pitch.Â
- Kerwood struck out the first batter she faced in the fifth before departing for Crossman, who got the final two outs to finish off a dominant victory.Â
TEAMÂ NOTES
- Delaware's 19-0 victory was its second largest shutout win in program history - UD defeated Franklin & Marshall 21-0 on April 13, 1976, the program's fourth ever game played.Â
- Delaware has won a program record 11 conference games in a row, surpassing the mark set by the 2024 and 2023 teams.Â
- Delaware has tied its program record set last year for conference wins in a season with 21.Â
- Delaware's 10-run second inning was its largest scoring inning since scoring 16 in the second inning against Lehigh on April 6, 2022. The 19 runs scored in the game are also the most since scoring 20 against Lehigh in that game.Â
- The 19 runs scored are the most ever scored by Delaware in a conference game in program history.Â
- The 19 runs scored are the most ever scored by a team in a Delaware vs Towson matchup, a series that spans 137 games and began in 1976.Â
- Delaware's shutout was its 17th of the season, two shy of tying its program record of 19 set in 2000. The 17 shutouts are the most by a CAA team since 2019 James Madison.Â
- Delaware has tied its single-season record for doubles in a season with 87 doubles, set last year.Â
- The Delaware pitching staff has 320 strikeouts this season, 10 shy of tying the single-season record of 330 set in 2006.Â
- Shaffer became the first player in program history to have two career games of at least six RBIs, previously doing so against Akron on Feb. 17, 2024. This is the second six-RBI game by a Delaware player this season. Mary Beth Cahalan drove in six against Drexel on March 9. Delaware is the only CAA team to have two players have a six-RBI game this season.Â
- Shaffer has tied Mariah Kondravy's 2015 single-season RBI record of 55.Â
- Shaffer drove her in 100th career run, becoming the eighth player in program history to reach 100 RBIs.Â
- Shaffer upped her season hits total to 61, tying Mandy Welch (1999) for ninth most hits in a season by a Blue Hen.Â
- Shaffer tied Michelle Grap on the career home run list with her 23rd - fifth most all-time.Â
- Scheivert had the 12th game in program history with four runs scored, and second this season. Gianna Costaro scored four runs against Drexel on March 9. Delaware is the only school in the CAA to have two players score four runs scored in games. Scheivert is now at 98 career runs scored.Â
- Scheivert also recorded her first career four-hit game, and third by a Delaware player this season (Blantz - April 26 vs Monmouth, Costaro - March 9 vs Drexel). Of the four four-hit games this season by CAAÂ players, Delaware has three of them.Â
- Kerwood tied the single-season wins record of 22, set last year by Emily Winburn.Â
- Kerwood has won 10 consecutive decisions, the fourth longest streak in program history.Â
- Blantz extended her career-best hit streak to nine, a season-best for a Delaware player.Â
- Scheivert and Blantz both scored their 40th runs of the season, recording the seventh and eighth seasons in program history in which a player has scored 40 runs.Â
- Gallucci has three-straight multiple hit games, and has had at least two hits in a game in seven of her last 11 games.Â
- Thomas' home run was the third of her career and her third in her last nine games.Â

- Delaware plays Towson tomorrow at 2:00. A win would clinch the No. 1 seed in the CAA Conference Tournament at least a share of the CAA Regular Season title.Â
