Softball Wins CAA Regular Season Title With Walk-Off Win Over Towson

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Morgan Hess hit a home run as part of a two-hit day.Â
- Mary Beth Cahalan also homered.Â
- Sydney Shaffer had three walks.Â
- Chloe Blantz went 1-for-3 with a walk.Â
- Sorella Gallucci had a hit and two walks.Â
- Kerwood pitched five innings in relief with just two hits and one run allowed, striking out nine.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- A bases loaded walk by Towson in the second gave them a 1-0 lead.Â
- Hess got the run back immediately with a leadoff home run to left field.Â
- After two runners reached to start the third, Kerwood came on in relief and worked out of trouble with two strikeouts.Â
- Two errors put two runners on with no outs in the fourth, but Kerwood struck out the next three hitters swinging to escape the jam.Â
- Kerwood struck out two more in the fifth to leave a pair of runners aboard in the fifth.Â
- Delaware took its first lead of the game in the bottom half on a leadoff home run to center field by Cahalan.Â
- Towson tied the game in the sixth with a two-out triple.Â
- Kerwood worked UD's first 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh.Â
- Gallucci led off the top of the seventh by dumping a single to left, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Grace Hausamann, and scored on the double by Talley to win the game.Â
GAME NOTES
- Delaware won the third Conference Regular Season Championship in program history. The Blue Hens previously won the CAA in 2022 and 2023.Â
- Delaware set a new program record for conference wins in a season with 22, besting last year's record of 21. The 22 wins ties a CAA record for most conference wins in a season.Â
- The Delaware pitching staff has tied a program record for strikeouts in a season with 330, last done in 2006.Â
- Delaware's walk-off win was its third this season, and second walk-off hit for Talley. She previously had a walk-off home run against Rider on March 18. Hess had a walk-off sacrifice fly against Elon on March 30.Â
- Kerwood set a new program record for wins by a pitcher in a season with her 23, moving past the record Emily Winburn had set last year.Â
- Kerwood has won 11 consecutive decisions, tied for the second longest streak in program history. Hess won 11 straight last season, while Winburn did so in 2021. Susan Dugan holds the record at 12, done in 2000.Â
- Shaffer upped her walk total for the season to 32, fourth most in program history.Â
- Blantz extended her career-best hit streak to 10.Â
- Cahalan's home run was the 15th of her career.Â
- Hess' home run was the 42nd of her career. Her 13 home runs as a Blue Hen tie her with Hanna Garber for ninth most in program history.Â
- Hess also hit her 40th career double. Her double established a new Delaware program record for doubles in a season, now at 89 after following Talley's game-ending double.Â
- Delaware's 12-game conference win streak is the fifth longest active streak in Division I, only behind Grand Canyon (16), Howard (15), McNeese (15), and Marist (14).Â
- Delaware has won five-straight games against Towson, its longest streak against the Tigers since winning seven-straight from 1983-1986. Â

- Delaware celebrates its Senior Day tomorrow morning in its regular season finale against Towson at 11:00. It is Delaware's final CAA Regular Season game.Â
