#20 Blue Hens Continue to Roll in 14-5 Win At Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Playing in the program's first-ever game on ESPN3, the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back in a 14-5 victory at Monmouth Wednesday afternoon.
UD went into halftime with an 8-1 lead, but eventually went up by as much as nine before the Hawks scored two straight. The Hens completed the game by outscoring Monmouth, 3-1, in the final 12 minutes.
The #20 Blue Hens (5-1) received hat tricks from three different players and were led in scoring by junior Casey Lyons (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada/Berkshire). Lyons finished the game with three goals and two assists.
Caitlin McCartney(Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added four points on three goals and one assist while freshman Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) posted the first multi-goal game of her career with three. Alex ZaugraCarly Sane tallied two goals for the Hawks (3-2) while Kristina Vangeli controlled seven draws. Katie Donohoe was credited with the loss after allowing 13 goals with five saves.
“We put together another team effort that resulted in victory. We did a great job of using our speed in transition, which helped us to build some momentum and a lead in the first half. Monmouth is a well-coached team and we knew that we had to compete for 60 minutes. I am happy with our effort, but with that said, our execution needs to continue to improve.”
Caitlin McCartney has moved into 14th place in the UD record books with 155 career points. Katie Muth (2004-08) is 13th with 156.
