Delaware Drops OT Heartbreaker to Towson, 7-6

TOWSON, Md. – The No. rv/rv Blue Hens led, 6-5, with five minutes left in regulation before No. 20/17 Towson responded with two unanswered goals Saturday afternoon to defeat Delaware, 7-6, in overtime at Johnny Unitas® Stadium in the Colonial Athletic Association lid-lifter.
Junior Jamie Schwartz (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) led the Hens (8-3, 0-1 CAA) with three points on two goals and an assist while sophomore Megan Santoleri (Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) logged the first multi-goal game of her career with two tallies.
Senior Devyn Heidelbaugh (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and junior Mary Abram (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline) each collected two draws for Delaware. Additionally, senior Erin Wein (Middletown, Md./Middletown) picked up three groundballs.
In the cage, sophomore Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) notched eight saves with seven goals allowed.
Kateri Linville“It's always a battle with Towson. Meg Santoleri gave us great momentum from the opening minutes. We competed and played to win. We had opportunities in regulation and over time. It's a heartbreaker but one that we will use to get better.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Saturday's contest was the first overtime match for the Blue Hens since March 30, 2014 when Delaware fell to Towson, 12-10 at Unitas Stadium.
· Senior Casey Lyons is day-to-day with an injury.
· The Blue Hens are now 30-19 all-time against Towson while the Tigers have won nine straight over Delaware at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
· UD outshot TU, 23-17, and also had the advantage in groundballs at 17-11.
