NEWARK, Del. – A late second half run proved to be too little too late Friday evening as No. 20/17 Towson topped the Blue Hens, 8-5, at Delaware Stadium.
UD outscored the Tigers, 4-1, in the final 4:26, but Towson (10-5, 3-2 CAA) took the early lead and never looked back en route to victory.
Junior Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led the
Hens (7-7, 2-2 CAA) with two goals, three draw controls and two ground balls.
Delaware also received goals from senior Jamie Schwartz (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron), junior Megan Santoleri (Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and sophomore Caroline Farley (at left; Medford, N.J./Shawnee).
Senior co-captains Mary Abram (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline) and Coley Ricci (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) both added three caused turnovers and two ground balls for UD.
Junior goalie Taylor Carpentier (below right; Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) notched nine saves with a caused turnover and ground ball.
Kaitlyn Montalbano led the way for Towson as she registered three goals while Emily Gillingham posted two goals and an assist to go along with three draw controls.
“It was a super physical game for both teams and I thou
ght we played tough defense. We need to be more disciplined and footwork is important to limiting fouls and making a few more stops. When we went hard, we created more opportunities and got more shots off. We need to figure out how to do that for a full 60 minutes and match our intensity from the defensive end.”HEN SCRATCHINGS
