PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware men's soccer team left it all on the field in a 3-3 draw against the Dragons on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hens are now 6-2-4 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play.
COACHES QUOTE
- "I'm so proud of the boys today. We were aggressive from the first minute and created chance after chance. We left it late, but it wouldn't have been fair on our team to leave here with less than a point," head coach Tommy McMenemy said. "I'm not happy with the two big calls that went against us and cost us goals, but those things tend to even out over time. We're happy with a point on the road against a very mature Drexel team."
PLAYER QUOTE
- "We stuck together throughout the whole game and had a very good team performance which puts us one step closer to making playoffs this year," freshman midfielder Richard Monath said.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Sam Donnellan, Florian Phlepsen, and T.J. Hastings each recorded a goal.
- Jan Schroeder had two assists while Liam Fuller tallied one.
- Adam Vik made his first appearance this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware took the early lead after Donnellan scored on a penalty kick in just the third minute of the game.
- Drexel answered just four minutes later when Antonio Illuminato sent a penalty kick past Vik. The Dragons took the 2-1 lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Dominick Bachstein.
- Delaware drew its second corner kick of the game with six minutes remaining in the first half.
- Schroeder took the corner and found Phlepsen in the middle. Phlepsen sent a header past Drexel's keeper to the top left corner of the goal to tie the game 2-2.
- The Hens fell behind 18 minutes into the second half when Drexel scored once more off a goal from Ori Arzi.
- Just 75 seconds remained when Fuller crossed the ball to Schroeder on the left side. Schroeder lifted the ball into the air with a pass that found Hastings in front of the Dragons' goal. Hastings recorded the equalizer off a header to the back of the net.
GAME NOTES
- Phlepsen recorded his first career goal.
