Women's Lacrosse Loses To No. 5 Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Delaware women's lacrosse lost to No. 5 nationally-ranked Stony Brook, 19-6, on Saturday, March 18 in their CAA conference opener.
Five Blue Hens scored a goal for Delaware, led by McKenzie Didio. Also contributing goals were Lizzie Hsu, Lizzie Yurchak, Sam Schelling, and Jenna McHale. Riley Gillin and Delaney McDaniel both had assists. Mercy McCarthy had 16 saves, including 14 in the first half. During the opening quarter, she reached 200 saves for her career.
Didio scored the first goal of the game with the Blue Hens down a player, with Gillin picking up the assist. Three straight goals scored by Stony Brook gave them the lead. Yurchak snapped the scoring spurt with a goal on a free-position shot early in the second quarter, then McDaniel connected with Didio for her second goal to make the score 5-3, Seawolves, with 4:27 left in the half.
McHale and Schelling both scored to end the third quarter and open the fourth. Late in the fourth, Hsu found the back of the net on a free position shot before the final buzzer sounded.
Didio recorded her second multi-goal game, also done against Old Dominion on Feb. 25. Hsu's goal was the 47th of her career, while Yurchak's was her 44th. McDaniel's assist was the 49th of her career. McCarthy became the 15th player in Delaware history with at last 200 saves, and her 16 was one shy of tying her career high.
Delaware will celebrate Senior Day on March 25 against Monmouth, with the game starting at 12:00 p.m.
