Women's Lacrosse Game Preview: Monmouth, Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. - Delaware's women's lacrosse team will honor 12 student-athletes for their Senior Day game prior to their matchup with Monmouth on Saturday, March 25 at 12:00 p.m. The Blue Hens will recognize the accomplishments and careers of Harley Pilling, Mercy McCarthy, Meghan Johnson, Sydni Rosa, Brooke Ciampaglio, Mae Dickens, Eleanor Farris, Megan Bozzi, Madison Hranicka, Lizzie Hsu, Laurel McHale, and Sophia Murray.
Senior Highlights
Harley Pilling
A four-year team member, Pilling has received CAA Commissioner's honor roll and has contributed on draw controls during this season after coming back from injury. She is receiving her master's in international business and plans to pursue a career in sales.
Mercy McCarthy
McCarthy has appeared in 33 games over a five-year career and is one of 15 players in program history to attain 200 career saves. She is a health behavior science major with a minor in public health, and plans to pursue a career in medical sales or healthcare consulting
Meghan Johnson
Johnson was Delaware's 2022 302 Award winner and has been named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll previously in her career. She has appeared in 39 games over a five-year career. She is receiving her master's in strategic communication and plans to pursue a career in marketing or communications.
Sydni Rosa
A captain, Rosa came to Delaware a season ago after spending two years at Penn State. She has scored 20 goals during her Blue Hen career, including three against top-seeded Towson during last year's CAA Tournament semifinal that helped her land on the conference's All-Tournament Team. She is also a member of the OneLove senior committee. She is majoring in interpersonal communications and plans to pursue a career in medical device sales.
Brooke Ciampaglio
Ciampaglio has served as a member of Delaware's student-athlete advisory committee for three years. She is currently the SAAC Eboard Head of Communications, and has been involved in the HenMinded program for 3 years. Brooke also serves as an EMT and Trainer at Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company and Delaware City Fire Company. She will graduate from the honors college after majoring in medical diagnostics and minoring in genetic counseling and will be receiving Cum Laude honors for being in the top eight percent of her class for her major. She will attend the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University on an Air Force Scholarship in hopes of becoming an OBGYN.
Mae Dickens
Dickens has served as a captain for this season, and has appeared in 29 games over her career. She has recorded four goals, an assist, and 20 ground balls and has been named to the CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll in all four years. She has been an organization representative for SAAC, UDANCE, OneLove and was a Hens Mentor. She is majoring in elementary education with a focus in special concentration and is planning to attend graduate school in hopes of acquiring her master's in educational technology.
Ella Farris
Farris is a four-year member of the program and has been named to the CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll and UD's Dean's List throughout her career. As an active member in the community, she volunteers at the Delaware Foodbank, assisting children at La Accademia school, and planning mental health retreats at Sean's House on campus. She is a Co-Author on the publication of her medical research which is being presented at medical conferences across the eastern United States. She is majoring in biology and plans to take the MCAT and apply to medical school.
Megan Bozzi
Bozzi made her way to Delaware after a four-year stint with Coastal Carolina, where she scored 57 goals with 28 assists and was named to the SoConn All-Tournament team. This year, she had a three-goal, four-point game against UMBC to lead Delaware to a win. She has assisted on social media to create content for the program, and is also a part of our B+ senior committee. She is earning her master's degree in strategic communication and plans to pursue a career in professional sports.
Madison Hranicka
Hranicka has started in 35 of her 37 career games and has served as captain for this season. She currently ranks in the top 10 in career caused turnovers with 53. She is a part of the HenMinded program and is on the volunteer senior committee. She graduated this fall with a marketing degree from the Lerner Business School and is pursuing an MBA in Business at Delaware.
Lizzie Hsu
Hsu is a captain and has scored 47 goals in 29 career games over four years. She is currently tied for the team lead in goals so far this year after ranking second last year. She was a finalist for the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, State Farm Sales Competition, earning $1,500. She was also awarded the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award and is a Presidential Scholarship Recipient. She is double majoring in marketing and operations management and is planning to get her master's degree in international business at Delaware.
Laurel McHale
McHale is in her first season at UD after arriving from Bucknell. At Bucknell, she had 35 goals & 21 assists in 48 games. This season, she has recorded five goals & two assists and started in every game. Along with being a member of the mental health senior committee, she has worked with the University of Delaware's Football operations team as an intern. She is majoring in strategic leadership & is planning to pursue a career in pro sports.
Sophia Murray
Murray has played in 19 games over her career, making her first four starts this year. Her season has been highlighted so far by two ground balls and a caused turnover recorded against nationally ranked Denver. She is a B+ Foundation and UDANCE representative and is on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion senior committee. She is majoring in criminal justice and interpersonal communications with a minor in political science and plans to pursue a master's degree in Strategic Communications at Drexel.

2023 Highlights
- Delaware won four of their first five games of the season, their best five-game start since 2016 when they also started 4-1, and eventually won eight of their first nine games.
- Mercy McCarthy recorded her 200th save of her career in Delaware's game against Stony Brook, the 15th player in program history to reach the mark.
- Lizzie Hsu scored five goals against Niagara on March 11, tying her career-high last done on April 16, 2022 against Elon.
- Morgan Gore scored a goal in six consecutive games to begin her career, the longest streak by a Blue Hen in over 14 years. She was the first UD freshman to score a goal in six consecutive games since McKenzie Rafferty in 2013. She has scored in seven of nine career games.
- Megan Bozzi had a breakout game against UMBC, as the Coastal Carolina transfer scored her first three-career goals as a Blue Hen. Her hat trick was the ninth of her collegiate career, and her with Delaware. She now has 89 points for her career.
- Against UMBC, McCarthy became the first Delaware player to allow fewer than 10 goals and save at least 10 shots since Kate Brewster on March 4, 2020 against Duquesne.
- Delaware had a player score at least three goals in a game in their first five games to start the season (Livornese vs Lafayette, Lehigh, Temple, Gore vs Lafayette, Bozzi vs UMBC).
- From Feb. 22-March 1 against Temple, Old Dominion, and UMBC, Delaware allowed fewer than 10 goals in three consecutive games for the first time since March 23-31, against UConn, Oregon, and Louisville.
- Against Old Dominion, an 18-9 win, Delaware had 26 draw controls, a new program record and equaling Virginia's, Butler's, UMBC's, Stanford, and Stetson's game-high in the NCAA this season. Danielle Livornese recorded 12 of the draw controls, tying the Delaware program record only done by Caroline Farley on March 27, 2019 against Oregon and March 16, 2019 against Saint Joseph's.
- Delaney McDaniel, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Year, has two six-assist games. She, Ava Yovino of Navy, Emma Ward of Syracuse, and Mary Schumar of Marquette are the only players in the NCAA this season with two such games. Her seven assists against Lafayette were tied for the fourth most in program history, while her six against Old Dominion were the seventh most.
- Livornese started the season by scoring at least three goals in four consecutive games, the first UD player to begin the season with four-straight three-goal games since Becky Gohsler in 2017.
- Madison Hranicka is one of 11 players so far this year with at least 20 caused turnovers (20) and 15 ground balls (16). She and Brianna Falco (Monmouth) are the only CAA players with both marks.
- Hranicka is also the second player in program history with three career games with at least four caused turnovers (Chantae Simms) and the fourth player with two such games in one season - Sims, (2019, three), Becky Gohsler (2017), and Erin Wein (2016).
